Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,862 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,862 m of the 3,056 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 661 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A321 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at KBNA Nashville International Airport, taking 11 minutes and covering a distance of 2 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 20L, with a takeoff distance of 1,601 meters, which accounted for 66% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 172 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions of 7°C temperature and winds of 5 knots at 78°. The crosswind was 5 knots, while the tailwind was 3 knots. The enroute climb started overhead KBNA Nashville International Airport, where the aircraft ascended from 613 feet above sea level to 30,732 feet above sea level, an increase of 30,120 feet in 19 minutes, covering a distance of 131 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began 2 miles south of Knoxville, Tennessee, and lasted for 4 minutes, covering 40 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its descent 10 miles southeast of Newport, Tennessee, and descended from 30,758 feet above sea level to 9,656 feet above sea level, a decrease of 21,102 feet in 14 minutes, covering a distance of 102 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise resumed overhead Lowell, North Carolina, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering 8 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent 1 mile northwest of Lake Wylie, South Carolina, and descended from 9,152 feet above sea level to 1,983 feet above sea level, a decrease of 7,169 feet in 6 minutes, covering a distance of 6 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 36C at KCLT Charlotte Douglas International Airport took place from the south, with a heading of 356.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,240 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 36C, which had a length of 3,056 meters, was successful, despite the threshold height being significantly above target and the threshold speed being slightly above target.
The touchdown point was 229 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 144 knots, which was fast. The touchdown rate was fair at -233 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.4 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 7°C temperature and winds of 3 knots at 349°, with a crosswind of 0 knots and a headwind of 3 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,766 meters, which accounted for 58% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing to the parking area from the runway took 4 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 295 nautical miles, taking 63 minutes, and the aircraft used 2,673 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed on runway 36C at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (KCLT) with a score of 87.2%. The final approach was initiated from the south, heading 356.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,240 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on the runway, which has a length of 3,056 meters.
The threshold height at 82 feet agl was significantly above the target, indicating that the aircraft may have been slightly high during the approach. However, the threshold speed of 145 knots was only slightly above the target, suggesting that the pilot maintained a relatively stable approach speed. The touchdown point was 229 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which may indicate a slightly long landing.
The touchdown speed of 144 knots was faster than the target, resulting in a touchdown rate of -233 feet per minute (fpm), which was considered fair. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.4 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the approach path.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 7°C and a wind speed of 3 knots from 349°. The crosswind component was negligible, while the headwind component was 3 knots. These conditions were relatively calm and did not pose a significant challenge to the landing.
The total landing distance was 1,766 meters, which accounted for 58% of the runway length. This is a relatively long landing distance, but it was still within the acceptable limits. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was considered successful, but there were some minor deviations from the target parameters. The pilot's ability to maintain control of the aircraft and navigate the aircraft to a safe touchdown was demonstrated, despite the slightly challenging approach conditions.
