Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,008 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 452 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 3 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a TBM 850, then departed from runway 01 at LGSK Skiathos Island National Airport. The takeoff distance was 600 meters, which is 38% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 92 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 16°C, with a wind speed of 2 knots from a direction of 270°. This resulted in a crosswind of 2 knots and a tailwind of 1 knot. The aircraft began its enroute climb 1 mile north of LGSK Skiathos Island National Airport, rising from an altitude of 684 feet above sea level to 4,895 feet above sea level, an increase of 4,211 feet in just 3 minutes, covering a distance of 14 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 10 miles north of Patitirion, lasting 9 minutes and covering 46 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent 21 miles southwest of Myrina, descending from 5,010 feet above sea level to 2,303 feet above sea level, a decrease of 2,706 feet in 4 minutes, covering a distance of 16 nautical miles. Another enroute level cruise started 7 miles south of Myrina, lasting 3 minutes and covering 9 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 04R at LGLM Limnos Airport was made from the southwest, heading 48.0° at an altitude of 808 feet above ground level, 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing on runway 04R was successful, with a touchdown distance of 450 meters, which is 31% of the runway length. The touchdown speed was 64 knots, and the touchdown rate was smooth at -128 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 12.1 meters.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 15°C, with a wind speed of 2 knots from a direction of 269°. This resulted in a crosswind of 1 knot and a tailwind of 1 knot. The total landing distance was 930 meters, and the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 11.9 meters.
The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 92 nautical miles, taking 27 minutes, and the aircraft used 88 kilograms of fuel.
The TBM 850 aircraft successfully landed at LGLM Limnos Airport, achieving a score of 95.0%. The final approach was conducted from the southwest, heading 48.0° at 4 nautical miles and 808 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 04R, which has a length of 3,008 meters.
The threshold height was satisfactory, and the threshold speed was maintained at 68 knots, indicating a well-executed approach. The touchdown distance of 450 meters was also within acceptable limits. The touchdown speed of 64 knots was good, and the touchdown rate of -128 feet per minute (fpm) was smooth, suggesting a controlled descent.
However, there were some minor deviations from the ideal landing performance. The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 12.1 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to factors such as wind or pilot error. The local weather conditions were relatively calm, with a temperature of 15°C and a wind speed of 2 knots at 269°. The crosswind and tailwind components were minimal, at 1 knot each.
The total landing distance of 930 meters was 31% of the runway length, which is within acceptable limits. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 11.9 meters from the centerline, indicating a slight deviation from the ideal path. Overall, the landing was successful, but there is room for improvement in terms of alignment and precision.
