Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.

The rest of the report
The Airbus A220-300 taxied from the parking area to the runway in 11 minutes, covering 3 nm before line-up.
The aircraft departed runway 13 at KDSM Des Moines International Airport, accelerating for a takeoff roll of 6,156 ft (69 % of the runway). Liftoff was achieved at 146 kt. Ambient temperature was 89 °F with a wind of 7 kt from 169°, a 4 kt cross-wind component and a 6 kt head-wind component.
Climb commenced one mile southeast of KDSM, rising from 2,044 ft asl to 29,661 ft asl - a gain of 27,617 ft - in 16 minutes while covering 101 nm.
The first level cruise began three miles east of Keithsburg, Illinois, lasting 2 minutes and spanning 11 nm.
Descent phase one started two miles west of 8IA2 Port Paradise Farms Airport, Winfield, dropping from 29,805 ft asl to 24,361 ft asl - a loss of 5,444 ft - in 3 minutes over 24 nm.
A second cruise segment originated three miles southwest of Galva, Illinois, persisting for 5 minutes and covering 33 nm.
Descent phase two was initiated five miles northeast of IL65 M.A.M Trail Airport, Little York, descending from 24,054 ft asl to 21,065 ft asl - a decrease of 2,989 ft - in 3 minutes across 22 nm.
The third cruise interval began one mile northwest of Shorewood, Illinois, lasting 5 minutes and encompassing 19 nm.
Descent phase three started overhead Westmont, Illinois, falling from 4,497 ft asl to 3,934 ft asl - a loss of 562 ft - in 2 minutes while traveling 5 nm.
A fourth cruise leg originated one mile southeast of Countryside, Illinois, and continued for 3 minutes, covering 9 nm.
Descent phase four began overhead West Englewood, Illinois, dropping from 3,929 ft asl to 2,238 ft asl - a reduction of 1,691 ft - in 3 minutes over 7 nm.
The final approach to runway 22L at KMDW Chicago Midway International Airport was flown from the northeast, on a heading of 216.0° at 3 nm and 1,602 ft agl.
Landing on runway 22L, which is 5,810 ft long, was executed with a threshold speed of 124 kt and a touchdown speed of 123 kt. The aircraft touched down 239 ft from the threshold, with a firm touchdown rate of minus 361 fpm, and the total landing distance recorded was 3,580 ft (62 % of the runway). Local conditions were 79 °F, wind 5 kt from 161°, a 5 kt cross-wind and a 2 kt head-wind.
Runway rollout alignment was reported as very good.
The aircraft taxied from the runway to the parking area in 4 minutes, covering less than 1 nm.
In total, the flight covered 295 nm, lasted 71 minutes, and consumed 4,395 lbs of fuel.
Airbus A220-300 approached runway 22L at KMDW from the north-east on a heading of 216.0° at 3 nm and 1,602 ft agl. The final approach was assessed as unstable at the 1,000 ft gate, with sink rate too high and the aircraft off the glideslope. Local weather was temperature 79 °F, wind 5 kt from 161°, providing a 5 kt crosswind and a 2 kt headwind.
At threshold the aircraft’s speed was slightly below target at 124 kt and the threshold height was reported as good. The flare proceeded without further comment.
Touchdown occurred 239 ft down the runway at a speed of 123 kt, both described as good, with a firm touchdown rate of minus 361 fpm. Runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The total landing distance was 3,580 ft, representing 62 % of the 5,810 ft runway, and rollout alignment was very good. The overall score for the landing was 97.2%.
Coaching should concentrate on achieving a stabilized approach by the 1,000 ft gate, specifically controlling sink rate and maintaining the glideslope. Maintaining the target threshold speed will further reinforce a consistent touchdown point.
