Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 4,001 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 551 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 16 at UBBB Heydar Aliyev International Airport, where the aircraft, FBW AIR TRANSAT C-GCKU, took off with a takeoff distance of 1,924 meters, which accounted for 48% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 144 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time were a temperature of 8 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 9 knots at 149 degrees.
As the aircraft climbed, it started its enroute climb overhead Yeni Suraxani, a part of Baku City, Azerbaijan. The climb began at an altitude of 1,008 feet above sea level and increased to 1,738 feet, a rise of 730 feet in just 1 minute, covering a distance of 2 nautical miles. Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, lasting 9 minutes and covering 9 nautical miles, 1 mile south east of Yeni Suraxani.
The final approach to runway 16 at UBBB Heydar Aliyev International Airport began from the north, with the aircraft heading 167.0 degrees at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,280 feet above ground level. The landing on the runway was successful, with a threshold speed that was slightly below the target at 121 knots. The touchdown point was 130 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 118 knots, which was considered good. The touchdown rate was also excellent at -83 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 6.5 meters. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 6 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 9 knots at 149 degrees, with a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 8 knots. The total landing distance was 1,268 meters, accounting for 32% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good.
In conclusion, the flight was a successful one, with the aircraft, FBW AIR TRANSAT C-GCKU, completing a total distance of 18 nautical miles in 13 minutes, using 484 kilograms of fuel. The flight demonstrated good handling and control, with a smooth climb, level cruise, and final approach, ultimately resulting in a safe and successful landing.
The aircraft, FBW AIR TRANSAT C-GCKU, successfully landed at UBBB Heydar Aliyev International Airport with a score of 96.7%. The final approach was initiated from the north, heading 167.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,280 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft successfully touched down on runway 16, which has a length of 4,001 meters.
The threshold height was reported as good, but the threshold speed was slightly below the target at 121 knots. The touchdown point was 130 meters beyond the touchdown zone, indicating a slight deviation from the intended landing spot. However, the touchdown speed of 118 knots was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -83 feet per minute (fpm) was excellent, indicating a smooth and controlled descent.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 6°C, with a wind speed of 9 knots at 149°. The crosswind component was minimal at 3 knots, while the headwind component was 8 knots. These conditions did not appear to have a significant impact on the landing.
The total landing distance was 1,268 meters, which is approximately 32% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the aircraft was able to touch down and come to a stop in a relatively short distance. The runway rollout alignment was reported as very good, indicating that the aircraft was able to maintain a straight and stable path during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, with the aircraft touching down safely and coming to a stop in a relatively short distance. The slight deviations from the intended landing spot and threshold speed were minor and did not appear to have a significant impact on the overall performance of the landing.
