MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,282 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 624 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking area to the runway, which took 11 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a British Aerospace 146-300, then departed from runway 23 at YPAD Adelaide International Airport. The takeoff distance was 8 meters, which was 0% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 122 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 30 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 23 knots from a direction of 349 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 20 knots and a tailwind of 11 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting overhead Glenelg North in the state of South Australia, Australia. The climb took 21 minutes and covered a distance of 101 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from an altitude of 1,030 feet above sea level to 28,420 feet above sea level, an increase of 27,389 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 12 miles south of YLAO Lameroo Airport in Lameroo, South Australia. This phase lasted for 27 minutes and covered a distance of 207 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 3 miles south east of Sedgwick in the state of Victoria, Australia. The descent took 12 minutes and covered a distance of 52 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from an altitude of 28,419 feet above sea level to 1,582 feet above sea level, a decrease of 26,837 feet.
The final approach to runway 27 at YMML Melbourne International Airport was made from the east, with the aircraft heading 274.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,184 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing was made on runway 27, which had a length of 2,282 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed at 129 knots. The touchdown point was 197 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 108 knots, which was good. The touchdown rate was perfect at -27 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 5.3 meters. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were the same as at the time of departure, with a temperature of 30 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 23 knots from a direction of 349 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 22 knots and a headwind of 6 knots. The total landing distance was 1,134 meters, which was 50% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good.
The taxiing period from the runway to the parking area took 9 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 368 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 78 minutes. The aircraft used 2,666 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The British Aerospace 146-300 aircraft successfully landed at Melbourne International Airport (YMML) on runway 27. The final approach was initiated from the east, heading 274.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,184 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a good threshold height, which is a critical aspect of a safe landing.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's speed was slightly above the target threshold speed of 129 knots, but still within a safe margin. The touchdown point was 197 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is a relatively minor deviation. The touchdown speed of 108 knots was considered good, and the touchdown rate of -27 feet per minute (fpm) was perfect, indicating a smooth and controlled descent.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.3 meters from the centerline, which may require some adjustments during the rollout phase. However, the local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 30°C and a moderate headwind of 6 knots. The crosswind component was 22 knots, but the aircraft's performance was not significantly affected.
The total landing distance of 1,134 meters was 50% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the post-landing phase. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with a score of 96.1%.
