Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,561 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 643 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A320 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Hamburg Helmut Schmidt Airport, taking approximately 8 minutes to cover less than 1 nautical mile. The departure roll took place on runway 33, with a takeoff distance of 394 meters, which is 12% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 159 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions of 18°C temperature and a wind speed of 8 knots at 350°. The crosswind was 2 knots, while the headwind was 8 knots. The enroute climb started 1 mile south of Norderstedt, Germany, and the aircraft ascended from 1,063 feet above sea level to 35,402 feet above sea level, an increase of 34,339 feet in 20 minutes, covering 117 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began 2 miles south of Bad Laer, Germany, and lasted for 60 minutes, covering 427 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its enroute descent 3 miles southeast of Pragelato-Rua, Italy, and descended from 35,677 feet above sea level to 4,348 feet above sea level, a decrease of 31,329 feet in 26 minutes, covering 95 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise resumed 11 miles southeast of Cannes, France, and lasted for 5 minutes, covering 10 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent 2 miles east of Theoule-sur-Mer, France, and descended from 3,990 feet above sea level to 1,305 feet above sea level, a decrease of 2,685 feet in 3 minutes, covering 9 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 04L at Nice-Côte d'Azur Airport was made from the southwest, heading 45.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,283 feet above ground level. The landing took place on the 2,561-meter-long runway, with the threshold height at 64 feet above ground level being above the target. The threshold speed was slightly above the target at 140 knots.
The touchdown point was 231 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 137 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was firm at -368 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 15.1 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions remained the same, with a temperature of 18°C and a wind speed of 8 knots at 350°.
The crosswind was 7 knots, while the headwind was 5 knots. The total landing distance was 1,334 meters, which is 52% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 15.0 meters from the centerline. The taxiing to the parking area from the runway took approximately 7 minutes to cover less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 666 nautical miles, taking 129 minutes, and the aircraft used 4,998 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A320 aircraft successfully landed on runway 04L at LFMN Nice-Côte d'Azur Airport, but with some minor deviations from the ideal landing parameters. The final approach was initiated from the southwest, heading 45.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,283 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on the runway, but the touchdown point was 231 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, indicating a slight deviation from the intended landing spot.
The touchdown speed of 137 knots was slightly above the target speed, which could have contributed to the firm touchdown rate of -368 feet per minute (fpm). The threshold height at 64 feet agl was above the target, suggesting that the aircraft may have been slightly high on final approach. The threshold speed was also slightly above the target at 140 knots, which could have affected the overall landing performance.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 18°C and a gentle wind of 8 knots from 350°. The crosswind component was 7 knots, while the headwind component was 5 knots. These conditions were relatively calm, which should have made the landing easier.
However, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 15.1 meters from the centerline, indicating that the aircraft may have been slightly off-center during the landing roll. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 15.0 meters from the centerline, which could have affected the overall stability of the aircraft during the landing roll.
The total landing distance of 1,334 meters was 52% of the available runway length, which is within the acceptable range. Overall, while the landing was successful, there were some minor deviations from the ideal landing parameters, which could be addressed through further training and practice.
