Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
At the 1,000 ft gate: speed above the reference speed.

Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,425 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 496 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period that lasted just one minute, covering a very short distance of less than one nautical mile, as the aircraft made its way from the parking area to the runway. The aircraft in question was then departing from runway 25 at the CFX4 Manning Municipal Airport, located in Alberta, Canada.
The aircraft, an RJ85, took off after a departure roll, covering a distance of 676 meters, which was 40% of the runway length. The liftoff speed reached 123 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of takeoff were characterized by a temperature of 11 degrees Celsius, with winds blowing at 2 knots from a direction of 229°. These conditions resulted in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 2 knots.
After takeoff, the aircraft began its enroute climb, which started overhead the Manning Municipal Airport. The aircraft ascended from an initial altitude of 2,682 feet above sea level to a maximum altitude of 28,919 feet, covering an increase of 26,237 feet in just 10 minutes, while traveling 49 nautical miles.
Once the aircraft had leveled off at the higher altitude, it entered a cruise phase, which lasted for 1 hour and 15 minutes as it traveled 318 nautical miles to the northeast of Fairview, Alberta.
Following the cruise, the enroute descent began 25 miles west of Barriere, British Columbia. The aircraft descended from an altitude of 29,030 feet above sea level to an altitude of 2,642 feet above sea level, covering a decrease of 26,389 feet in just 10 minutes, while traveling 29 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 27 at the CYKA Kamloops John Moose Fulton Field Regional Airport was initiated from the east, heading in a direction of 284.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,496 feet above ground level. Landing distance and touchdown speeds were noted during this phase, with an initial good threshold speed of 104 knots and a final touchdown speed of 97 knots, which was deemed a little too fast.
The aircraft landed on runway 27 with a total landing distance of 1,385 meters, covering 57% of the runway length. The touchdown point was 256 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a smooth touchdown rate of -102 feet per minute. Runway touchdown alignment was also very good. Local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 24 degrees Celsius.
Following the landing, the aircraft made its way to the parking area via a taxiing period that lasted just one minute, covering a very short distance of less than one nautical mile.
The total flight distance of the trip was 402 nautical miles, and it took a total of 71 minutes to complete, with the aircraft using 2,585 kilograms of fuel.
Aircraft RJ85 Successfully Lands at CYKA Kamloops John E. Fulton Field Regional Airport
On a recent occasion, an RJ85 aircraft successfully executed a landing at CYKA Kamloops John E. Fulton Field Regional Airport. The landing performance was noteworthy, with a final score of 99.2%. The flight approached the airport from the east, heading in a direction of 284.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,496 feet above ground level.
The approach and landing were executed flawlessly, with the aircraft landing on runway 27, which is 2,425 meters in length. The threshold height was reported to be good, indicating that the pilot had a clear and safe path to the runway. Furthermore, the threshold speed was satisfactory at 104 knots, which is the recommended speed for a safe touchdown.
Upon touchdown, the point of impact was just 256 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, indicating a somewhat longer than anticipated landing roll. However, the touchdown speed of 97 knots, although slightly higher than optimal, still allowed for a smooth touchdown, with a rate of -102 feet per minute. The rollout alignment was nearly perfect, indicating that the pilot had maintained good control of the aircraft during the landing process.
Weather conditions played a minor role in the landing performance, with a local temperature of 24°C. Considering these conditions, the overall performance of the aircraft and the pilot during this landing was very impressive, especially given the aircraft's score of 99.2%. This achievement reflects the expertise of the pilot and the capabilities of the RJ85 aircraft.
