Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,811 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,811 m of the 3,665 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 876 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took approximately 3 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Boeing 777-200ER, then departed from runway 20 at WBKK Kota Kinabalu International Airport. The takeoff distance was 835 meters, which accounted for 24% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 148 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 32 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 2 knots at 180 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 1 knot. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, which started overhead WBKK Kota Kinabalu International Airport. The climb took 16 minutes and covered 113 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from 1,118 feet above sea level to 39,364 feet above sea level, an increase of 38,246 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 21 miles southwest of Bangar, Temburong, Brunei. This phase lasted for 91 minutes and covered 699 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started 61 miles north of Indramayu, Jawa Barat, Indonesia. The descent took 18 minutes and covered 98 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from 39,918 feet above sea level to 4,402 feet above sea level, a decrease of 35,516 feet.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 15 miles north of Jakarta, Daerah Khusus Ibukota Jakarta, Indonesia. This phase lasted for 10 minutes and covered 36 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, which started 6 miles south of Kresek, Jawa Barat, Indonesia. The descent took 4 minutes and covered 13 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from 4,013 feet above sea level to 1,325 feet above sea level, a decrease of 2,688 feet.
The final approach to runway 07R at WIII Soekarno-Hatta International Airport was made from the southwest, heading 68.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,285 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 07R, which had a length of 3,665 meters. The threshold height was slightly above the target, and the threshold speed was also slightly above the target at 135 knots.
The touchdown point was 451 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 124 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was fair at -216 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 12.7 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 30 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 2 knots at 110 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 2 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,722 meters, which accounted for 47% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 12.0 meters from the centerline. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took approximately 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 965 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 148 minutes. The aircraft used 13,140 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 777-200ER aircraft successfully landed on runway 07R at WIII Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, but with some minor deviations from the ideal landing parameters. The final approach was initiated from the southwest, heading 68.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,285 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on the runway, but the touchdown point was 451 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, indicating a slight deviation from the intended landing spot.
The touchdown speed of 124 knots was slightly above the target speed, which could have contributed to the deviation from the touchdown zone. However, the touchdown rate of -216 feet per minute (fpm) was considered fair, indicating a relatively smooth descent. The runway touchdown position was also slightly misaligned by 12.7 meters from the centerline, which could have been due to a combination of factors including wind, pilot error, or aircraft performance.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 30°C and a gentle wind of 2 knots at 110°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, while the headwind component was 2 knots, which would have helped to stabilize the aircraft during the landing. The total landing distance of 1,722 meters was 47% of the available runway length, indicating a relatively long landing roll.
During the rollout, the aircraft's alignment was slightly misaligned by 12.0 meters from the centerline, which could have been due to the same factors that contributed to the initial touchdown position deviation. Overall, while the landing was not perfect, it was still considered successful, and the deviations from the ideal parameters were minor.
