Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 3,534 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the full 3,534 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 206 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took approximately 3 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Cessna 208B, then departed from runway 03 at KNTD Point Mugu Naval Air Station (Naval Base Ventura Co), with a takeoff distance of 2,528 feet, which accounted for 23% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 90 knots.
As the aircraft climbed out of the airport, it began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile northeast of KNTD Point Mugu Naval Air Station. The climb took 5 minutes, during which the aircraft ascended from 622 feet above sea level to 3,616 feet, an increase of 2,994 feet. This climb covered a distance of 10 nautical miles. Following this initial climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, lasting 5 minutes and covering 1 nautical mile, 5 miles southwest of Channel Islands Beach.
The aircraft then began another climb, this time from 4,077 feet above sea level to 7,110 feet, an increase of 3,033 feet, in 5 minutes and covering 9 nautical miles. The climb started 7 miles southwest of Channel Islands Beach. After this climb, the aircraft entered another level cruise, lasting 64 minutes and covering 120 nautical miles, 12 miles southwest of Ventura.
The aircraft then began its descent, starting 13 miles southwest of Coalinga, and descended from 7,686 feet above sea level to 7,229 feet, a decrease of 457 feet, in 2 minutes and covering 4 nautical miles. Following this descent, the aircraft entered another level cruise, lasting 62 minutes and covering 149 nautical miles, 13 miles east of San Ardo.
The aircraft then began its final descent, starting 3 miles northeast of KSUU Travis Air Force Base Fairfield, and descended from 7,087 feet above sea level to 2,400 feet, a decrease of 4,686 feet, in 3 minutes and covering 7 nautical miles. After this descent, the aircraft entered a short level cruise, lasting 2 minutes and covering 2 nautical miles, 2 miles east of Allendale.
The final approach to runway 20 at KVCB Nut Tree Airport was made from the northeast, with a heading of 207.0 degrees at 2 nautical miles and 1,757 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 20 was successful, with a touchdown distance of 175 feet, a touchdown speed of 61 knots, and a touchdown rate of -273 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 12 feet from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 66 degrees Fahrenheit. The total landing distance was 1,812 feet, which accounted for 51% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took approximately 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile.
In total, the flight covered a distance of 308 nautical miles, took 145 minutes, and used 946 pounds of fuel.
The Cessna 208B aircraft successfully landed at KVCB Nut Tree Airport, with a final approach score of 84.1%. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the north east, heading 207.0° at a distance of 2 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,757 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot executed a precise final approach, touching down on runway 20 with a threshold speed of 63 knots, which is considered good.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's performance was satisfactory, with a touchdown distance of 175 feet, which is also considered good. The touchdown speed of 61 knots was within the acceptable range. However, the touchdown rate of -273 feet per minute (fpm) was only fair, indicating that the aircraft may have experienced a slightly higher rate of descent than desired.
One notable aspect of the landing was the runway touchdown position, which was slightly misaligned by 12 feet from the centreline. This deviation from the ideal touchdown position may have been due to various factors, including wind or pilot error. Despite this, the runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 66°F. The total landing distance of 1,812 feet was 51% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the pilot demonstrating good control and precision during the approach and touchdown phases.
