Reduce your height at the threshold
Even a modest height error carries straight through to the touchdown. Geometry alone says that crossing the threshold 10 feet high on a 3° path moves your touchdown roughly 190 feet further down the runway before the flare adds anything.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 2,204 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,204 m of the 3,526 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 850 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Boeing 777-300ER taxied from the parking area to runway 07C at Hong Kong International Airport (VHHH) in 14 minutes, covering a distance of 4 nm.
During the departure roll on runway 07C, the aircraft used 1,361 m of runway (38 % of the available length) and lifted off at 185 kt; ambient temperature was 31 °C with calm winds (0 kt from 180°).
The initial climb began 1 nm north-east of VHHH, climbing from 950 ft asl to 7,968 ft asl-a gain of 7,018 ft-in 3 minutes while traversing 12 nm.
Level cruise commenced 2 nm north-west of Yung Shue Wan and lasted 5 minutes, during which the aircraft covered 22 nm.
A second climb segment started 10 nm south-east of Kai Tak (VHXG), rising from 7,982 ft asl to 29,669 ft asl, an increase of 21,686 ft in 17 minutes over 122 nm.
The following cruise leg began 5 nm east of Qingyuan, lasting 73 minutes and extending 620 nm.
Climbing again 26 nm west of Zigong, the aircraft ascended from 30,093 ft asl to 31,048 ft asl (954 ft) in 2 minutes while covering 14 nm.
A cruise segment from the same point west of Zigong lasted 47 minutes and added 380 nm to the flight path.
The next climb started 9 nm south-west of Lanzhou Air Base (ZYUZ), gaining 961 ft from 31,101 ft asl to 32,062 ft asl in 2 minutes across 12 nm.
Cruise continued 8 nm north-west of ZYUZ for 147 minutes, during which 1,059 nm were flown.
A further climb began 3 nm north of Baijiantan, raising the aircraft from 32,682 ft asl to 33,985 ft asl (1,303 ft) in 2 minutes over 12 nm.
The subsequent cruise leg from 15 nm north-west of Baijiantan lasted 198 minutes and covered 1,616 nm.
Climbing 4 nm north-west of Xacmaz, the airplane rose from 34,004 ft asl to 35,749 ft asl, a gain of 1,744 ft in 2 minutes while traveling 12 nm.
Cruise from 2 nm north of Quba continued for 196 minutes, adding 1,508 nm.
The final climb segment started overhead Moravska Nova Ves, increasing altitude from 36,103 ft asl to 37,964 ft asl (1,861 ft) in 2 minutes across 11 nm.
A cruise phase began 1 nm north-west of Starovicky, lasting 55 minutes and covering 394 nm.
Descent commenced 3 nm south-east of Greven, descending from 37,466 ft asl to 10,027 ft asl-a loss of 27,439 ft-in 13 minutes while covering 85 nm.
After this descent, a short cruise segment began 2 nm east of Lelystad, lasting 5 minutes and spanning 25 nm.
The next descent started overhead Obdam, dropping from 10,008 ft asl to 1,286 ft asl (8,722 ft) in 9 minutes over 34 nm.
During final approach to runway 18R at Amsterdam Schiphol (EHAM), the aircraft descended from 1,339 ft agl to 113 ft agl in 97 seconds and was scored on the stabilisation gates.
Landing on runway 18R (length 3,526 m) recorded a threshold height of 75 ft agl, a threshold speed of 149 kt, and a touchdown point 411 m beyond the touchdown zone; touchdown speed was 146 kt, touchdown rate was minus 360 fpm, and the aircraft was offset 4.0 m from the centreline. Local weather was 17 °C with a 3 kt wind from 170° (crosswind 1 kt, headwind 3 kt).
The total landing distance measured 2,100 m, representing 60 % of the runway, and runway-rollout alignment was judged very good.
After exiting the runway, the aircraft taxied to the parking area in 9 minutes, covering a distance of 3 nm.
Overall, the flight covered 5,950 nm, required 798 minutes of elapsed time, and consumed 106,211 kg of fuel.
The Boeing 777-300ER approached runway 18R at EHAM Schiphol in a stabilised configuration at the 1,000 ft gate, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope, centreline and speed all within limits. The final descent covered 1,339 ft AGL to 113 ft AGL in 97 seconds and was scored on the stabilisation gates.
At threshold the aircraft was 75 ft AGL, well above the target height, and entered the flare at a threshold speed of 149 kt, which was judged good. The flare resulted in a touchdown point 411 m beyond the touchdown zone, a touchdown speed of 146 kt that was noted as a little fast, a firm touchdown rate of minus 360 fpm, and a runway-centreline offset of 4.0 m.
Touchdown occurred with the aircraft slightly misaligned by 4.0 m from the centreline, a speed of 146 kt, and a firm vertical rate of minus 360 fpm, confirming the earlier observations of a fast and firm landing.
Rollout used 2,100 m of runway, representing 60 % of the 3,526 m available, and the alignment during rollout was very good. Local weather was 17 °C with a wind of 3 kt from 170°, including a 1 kt crosswind and a 3 kt headwind.
To bring the landing closer to the target, the crew should aim to achieve the prescribed threshold height and adjust the flare to place touchdown within the designated zone, while moderating speed toward the reference value. Maintaining precise alignment will preserve the very good rollout performance already demonstrated.
