Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,753 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,753 m of the 3,625 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 859 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 4 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 04 at FXMM Moshoeshoe I International Airport in Maseru, Lesotho. The takeoff distance was 1,943 meters, which was 65% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 155 knots, and the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 16°C, a wind speed of 2 knots at 352°, and a crosswind of 1 knot.
As the aircraft climbed out of Maseru, it began its enroute climb, which started 1 mile north of the airport and reached an altitude of 35,251 feet above sea level. The climb was a significant one, with an increase of 28,999 feet in just 28 minutes, covering a distance of 213 nautical miles. The aircraft then leveled off and entered a cruise phase, which lasted 79 minutes and covered 625 nautical miles. This cruise phase started 4 miles west of FAMV Montrose Airport in Montrose, South Africa.
The aircraft then began another climb phase, this time from 35,121 feet to 37,111 feet above sea level, an increase of 1,990 feet in just 4 minutes, covering a distance of 35 nautical miles. This climb phase started 6 miles east of FLLC Lusaka City Airport in Lusaka, Zambia. The aircraft then leveled off again and entered another cruise phase, which lasted 78 minutes and covered 606 nautical miles. This cruise phase started 9 miles east of FLCI Chisamba Airport in Chibombo, Zambia.
As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its descent phase, which started 21 miles west of Kigoma in Tanzania. The descent was a significant one, with a decrease of 30,307 feet in just 16 minutes, covering a distance of 105 nautical miles. The aircraft then leveled off again and entered a short cruise phase, which lasted 4 minutes and covered 6 nautical miles. This cruise phase started 9 miles west of Bubanza in Burundi.
The aircraft then began its final descent phase, which started 5 miles southwest of Bubanza. The descent was a short one, with a decrease of 2,415 feet in just 3 minutes, covering a distance of 8 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 17 at HBBA Bujumbura Melchior Ndadaye International Airport, which was located to the north. The approach was made at a heading of 171.0°, at an altitude of 1,365 feet above ground level, and at a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway.
The aircraft landed on runway 17, which was 3,625 meters long. The touchdown point was 442 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 122 knots, which was good. The touchdown rate was also good, at -194 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline, by 8.6 meters. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 17°C, a wind speed of 1 knot at 238°, and a crosswind of 1 knot.
The total landing distance was 1,672 meters, which was 46% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned from the centerline, by 10.2 meters. The aircraft then taxied to the parking from the runway, which took 2 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
In total, the flight distance was 1,
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at HBBA Bujumbura Melchior Ndadaye International Airport, with a final approach score of 90.8%. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the north, heading 171.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,365 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot maintained a good threshold height and speed, touching down at 143 knots.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's speed was 122 knots, which was within the acceptable range. The touchdown rate of -194 feet per minute (fpm) was also good, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. However, the touchdown point was 442 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which may indicate a slight deviation from the intended landing path.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 17°C and a light wind of 1 knot from 238°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, and there was no headwind. These conditions likely contributed to the smooth landing.
The total landing distance of 1,672 meters was 46% of the runway length, which is within the acceptable range. However, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 8.6 meters from the centerline, and the rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 10.2 meters from the centerline. These minor deviations may be due to factors such as wind or pilot error, but they did not appear to significantly impact the overall landing performance.
Overall, the landing was successful, and the pilot demonstrated good control and judgment in navigating the aircraft to a safe touchdown. However, there is room for improvement in terms of maintaining a more precise alignment with the runway centerline.
