Work on the flare
See Arrival Landing
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 9,969 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,146 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 8 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 20C at KBNA Nashville International Airport. The takeoff distance was 5,315 feet, which accounted for 66% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 148 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 61°F, with a wind speed of 2 knots at 189°. The crosswind was negligible, while the headwind was 1 knot. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 2 miles south of KBNA Nashville International Airport. The climb took 20 minutes, during which the aircraft ascended from 1,552 feet above sea level to 37,110 feet above sea level, covering a distance of 137 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 1 mile north of GA77 Wallace Field Rome in Georgia. This phase lasted for 29 minutes and covered a distance of 217 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 4 miles west of KAYS Waycross Ware County Airport in Georgia. The descent took 16 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from 37,152 feet above sea level to 2,065 feet above sea level, covering a distance of 58 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 1 mile northwest of FL11 Thrifts Airport Macclenny in Florida. This phase lasted for 9 minutes and covered a distance of 21 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 08 at KJAX Jacksonville International Airport was made from the southwest, with the aircraft heading at 71.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,275 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 08 at KJAX Jacksonville International Airport was characterized by a touchdown point that was 787 feet beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was slightly above target at 142 knots, while the touchdown rate was fair at -226 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 30 feet from the centerline. The total landing distance was 3,973 feet, which accounted for 40% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 35 feet from the centerline.
The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 6 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 441 nautical miles, which was covered in 89 minutes. The aircraft used 9,483 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at KJAX Jacksonville International Airport, but with some minor deviations from the ideal landing parameters. The final approach was initiated from the southwest, heading 71.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,275 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 08, which has a length of 9,969 feet.
The threshold height at 55 feet agl was slightly above the target, indicating that the aircraft was slightly higher than desired when reaching the runway threshold. Similarly, the threshold speed of 142 knots was also slightly above the target, suggesting that the aircraft was slightly faster than desired when reaching the runway threshold. The touchdown point was 787 feet beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively significant deviation.
The touchdown speed of 133 knots was a little fast, indicating that the aircraft was not fully slowed down before touching down. However, the touchdown rate of -226 feet per minute (fpm) was considered fair, suggesting that the aircraft was able to absorb the impact of landing relatively smoothly. Unfortunately, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 30 feet from the centreline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the aircraft's alignment during the final approach.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 61°F, which is relatively mild. The total landing distance of 3,973 feet was 40% of the runway length, which is a relatively normal landing distance for a Boeing 737-800 aircraft. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 35 feet from the centreline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the aircraft's alignment during the rollout phase.
Overall, while the landing was not perfect, it was still considered successful, and the deviations from the ideal landing parameters were relatively minor. However, the slight misalignment of the touchdown point and the runway rollout alignment may require some adjustments to the aircraft's approach and landing procedures to ensure a more precise and controlled landing in the future.
