Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,379 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 432 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft, an Airbus A321, taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport, taking 11 minutes and covering a distance of 2 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 29, with the aircraft lifting off at a speed of 157 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 17°C, with a wind speed of 7 knots at 160°.
As the aircraft climbed to a higher altitude, it began its enroute climb, starting overhead the town of Rebiechowo in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland. The climb took 19 minutes, during which the aircraft ascended from an altitude of 1,459 feet above sea level to 33,917 feet, an increase of 32,457 feet. The enroute climb covered a distance of 116 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 4 miles northeast of the town of Dobra in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland. This phase of the flight lasted for 63 minutes, during which the aircraft covered a distance of 427 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its enroute descent, starting 1 mile south of the town of Attert in Wallonia, Belgium. The descent took 7 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from an altitude of 34,158 feet above sea level to 19,175 feet, a decrease of 14,983 feet. The enroute descent covered a distance of 45 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 3 miles south of the town of Poix-Terron in the Grand Est region of France. This phase of the flight lasted for only 2 minutes, during which the aircraft covered a distance of 10 nautical miles.
As the aircraft continued its descent, it began another enroute descent phase, starting overhead the town of Sery in the Grand Est region of France. The descent took 14 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from an altitude of 19,147 feet above sea level to 6,919 feet, a decrease of 12,228 feet. The enroute descent covered a distance of 65 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 1 mile east of the town of Mery-la-Bataille in the Hauts-de-France region of France. This phase of the flight lasted for 3 minutes, during which the aircraft covered a distance of 9 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached its destination, it began another enroute climb phase, starting 3 miles east of the town of Bacouel in the Hauts-de-France region of France. The climb took 2 minutes, during which the aircraft ascended from an altitude of 6,903 feet above sea level to 7,727 feet, an increase of 823 feet. The enroute climb covered a distance of 4 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started overhead the town of Domfront in the Hauts-de-France region of France. This phase of the flight lasted for 2 minutes, during which the aircraft covered a distance of 6 nautical miles.
As the aircraft continued its descent, it began another enroute descent phase, starting overhead the town of Plainval in the Hauts-de-France region of France. The descent took 2 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from an altitude of 7,723 feet above sea level to 6,927 feet, a decrease of 797 feet. The enroute descent covered a distance of 6 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 1 mile north of the town of Montreuil
The Airbus A321 successfully landed at LFOB Paris-Beauvais Airport, achieving a score of 98.0%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north-west, heading 124.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,289 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with good control, and the aircraft touched down on runway 12, which has a length of 2,379 meters.
The threshold height was satisfactory, and the threshold speed was maintained at 144 knots, indicating a well-executed approach. The touchdown distance of 434 meters was also within acceptable limits. However, the touchdown speed of 137 knots was slightly higher than desired, which may have contributed to a fair touchdown rate of -286 feet per minute (fpm). This rate is not excessively high but could be improved upon.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 4.3 meters, which may be attributed to minor deviations in the approach or landing technique. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 20°C and a wind speed of 13 knots from 219°. The crosswind component was 13 knots, while the tailwind component was minimal at 1 knot.
The total landing distance of 1,374 meters was 58% of the runway length, which is a reasonable figure considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot maintained control and stability during the landing roll. Overall, the landing was executed with good control and minimal deviations from the desired parameters, resulting in a high score of 98.0%.
