Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 11,191 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 940 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 11 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 35L at LTFM İstanbul Airport in Istanbul, Turkey. The takeoff distance was 3,212 feet, which accounted for 24% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 156 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 41 degrees Fahrenheit, with a wind speed of 24 knots at a direction of 30 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 12 knots and a headwind of 21 knots. The aircraft began its enroute climb 1 mile northwest of LTFM İstanbul Airport, Arnavutköy, and ascended from an altitude of 1,350 feet above sea level to 31,251 feet above sea level, an increase of 29,901 feet, in 13 minutes and covering a distance of 51 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 4 miles northwest of LTGE Gemlik Airfield, Gemlik, and lasted for 21 minutes, covering a distance of 165 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent 1 mile northeast of LTFN Isparta/Kilic Airport, Isparta, and descended from 31,835 feet above sea level to 15,625 feet above sea level, a decrease of 16,211 feet, in 4 minutes and covering a distance of 31 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started again 4 miles north of Kizilkaya, Burdur, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 12 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent 8 miles west of LTXE Karain Airport, Antalya, and descended from 15,400 feet above sea level to 3,134 feet above sea level, a decrease of 12,266 feet, in 9 minutes and covering a distance of 40 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started once more 6 miles east of Tekirova, Antalya, and lasted for 4 minutes, covering a distance of 14 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent 5 miles north of FC02 Antalya Static Carrier - CVN78, Antalya, and descended from 2,430 feet above sea level to 1,434 feet above sea level, a decrease of 996 feet, in 2 minutes and covering a distance of 6 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 36R at LTAI Antalya International Airport was made from the south, heading 6.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,248 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 36R was successful, with a touchdown distance of 950 feet and a touchdown speed of 136 knots, which was slightly above the target speed. The touchdown rate was fair at -285 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 52 degrees Fahrenheit, with a wind speed of 16 knots at a direction of 330 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 10 knots and a headwind of 13 knots. The total landing distance was 3,319 feet, which accounted for 30% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect.
The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 9 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 328 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 78 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 6,904 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at LTAI Antalya International Airport, achieving a high score of 99.3%. The final approach to runway 36R was conducted from the south, with a heading of 6.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,248 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's approach was well-executed, with a good threshold height and a slightly above-target threshold speed of 143 knots.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's performance was satisfactory, with a touchdown distance of 950 feet, which is considered good. However, the touchdown speed of 136 knots was a little fast, indicating that the pilots may have needed to apply more braking to slow down the aircraft. The touchdown rate of -285 feet per minute (fpm) was fair, suggesting that the aircraft's descent was not excessively steep.
The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilots maintained a stable and controlled approach. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 52°F and a wind speed of 16 knots from a direction of 330°. The crosswind component was 10 knots, while the headwind component was 13 knots, which may have contributed to the slightly fast touchdown speed.
The total landing distance of 3,319 feet was 30% of the runway length, which is a reasonable distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, indicating that the pilots maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was successful, and the pilots demonstrated good skills and judgment in executing the approach and landing.
