MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Arrival
Begin the flare with progressive back pressure and keep it coming until the sink is arrested, rather than flying it on flat.
What happened: The nose was barely raised in the flare and little of the sink was taken out, flying the aircraft onto the runway. This pattern usually carries through to a firm touchdown with a noticeable sink rate.
Watch for: Vertical speed indicator: a smoothly reducing sink through the normal flare band, not a steady rate into the runway.
There are several things that can go wrong during the flare, carrying too much speed over the threshold, starting the flare at the wrong height and inconsistent flight control inputs, all contribute to a poor flare resulting in a hard touchdown or a float down the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,174 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 412 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Airbus A320 departed LIRF Rome-Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci International Airport on runway 34L, using a takeoff distance of 1,621 m (42 % of runway) and achieving liftoff at 158 kt. Local conditions were temperature 20 °C, wind 15 kt at 249 °, with a 15 kt crosswind component and a 1 kt tailwind.
Climb began overhead LIRF, rising from 1,022 ft asl to 4,015 ft asl, an increase of 2,993 ft in 2 minutes while covering 8 nm.
A level cruise segment started 2 nm west of Fiumicino and lasted 2 minutes, during which the aircraft flew 7 nm.
Descent commenced 8 nm south of Fiumicino, descending from 3,954 ft asl to 3,008 ft asl, a loss of 946 ft in 2 minutes over 7 nm.
The next cruise phase originated 10 nm south-west of Torvaianica, lasting 3 minutes and covering 11 nm.
A subsequent descent began 6 nm west of LIRE Pratica Di Mare Air Base, dropping from 2,949 ft asl to 605 ft asl, a decrease of 2,344 ft in 3 minutes while traveling 8 nm.
Climb resumed overhead Fiumicino, gaining altitude from 590 ft asl to 2,892 ft asl, an increase of 2,303 ft in 2 minutes across 5 nm.
A longer cruise segment started 2 nm north-west of LIRF, lasting 8 minutes and covering 32 nm.
Descent was initiated 6 nm west of LIRU Rome Urbe Airport, descending from 2,889 ft asl to 1,321 ft asl, a loss of 1,569 ft in 2 minutes over 7 nm.
Final approach to runway 25 at LIRF was flown from the east, on a heading of 250.0 ° at 3 nm and 1,297 ft agl.
Landing on runway 25 employed a runway length of 3,174 m; the threshold speed was slightly above target at 143 kt, touchdown occurred 415 m down the runway at 135 kt, and the vertical speed at touchdown was minus 254 fpm. Alignment was within limits. Weather at landing was temperature 18 °C, wind 15 kt at 250 °, with a 0 kt crosswind and a 15 kt headwind.
Overall, the flight covered 90 nm, required 27 minutes, and consumed 1,138 kg of fuel.
The Airbus A320 established the final approach to runway 25 at LIRF Rome-Fiumicino, heading 250.0° from the east at 3 nm and 1,297 ft agl, with temperature 18 °C, wind 15 kt from 250°, a 15 kt head-wind component and zero cross-wind.
The threshold height was good and the aircraft crossed the threshold at a speed slightly above target, recorded at 143 kt.
Touchdown occurred 415 m down the runway, a distance judged good, with a touchdown speed of 135 kt described as a little fast, a vertical rate of -254 fpm assessed as fair, and runway alignment rated very good.
Reduce the final-approach speed marginally to meet the target and aim for a slightly shallower descent rate to improve the vertical profile, while maintaining the already excellent alignment and touchdown point.
