Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,574 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,574 m of the 3,219 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 364 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A321 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at John F Kennedy International Airport, taking approximately 9 minutes to cover a distance of 3 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 22R, with the aircraft lifting off at a speed of 161 knots after covering 60% of the runway's length, which was 1,583 meters.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions of 19°C and a wind speed of 4 knots from a direction of 200°. The crosswind was minimal at 1 knot, while the headwind was 4 knots. The enroute climb began approximately 1 mile northwest of Far Rockaway, New York, and saw the aircraft ascend from an altitude of 1,041 feet above sea level to 33,970 feet, an increase of 32,929 feet in just 11 minutes, covering a distance of 99 nautical miles.
Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started approximately 1 mile east of Honey Brook, Pennsylvania, and lasted for 65 minutes. During this period, the aircraft covered a distance of 1,639 nautical miles. The enroute descent phase began approximately 11 miles west of Saint Johns Airport in Arizona, where the aircraft descended from an altitude of 34,182 feet to 2,399 feet, a decrease of 31,783 feet in 16 minutes, covering a distance of 134 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its final approach to runway 08 at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport from the west, heading 90° at an altitude of 1,267 feet above ground level and 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing took place on a runway with a length of 3,219 meters, and the aircraft touched down at a speed of 135 knots, with a touchdown distance of 363 meters. The touchdown rate was fair at -232 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4 meters from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 26°C and a wind speed of 3 knots from a direction of 143°, with a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 2 knots. The total landing distance was 1,497 meters, which was 47% of the runway's length. The runway rollout alignment was very good, and the aircraft taxied to the parking area from the runway in just 3 minutes, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
In total, the flight covered a distance of 1,881 nautical miles, taking 104 minutes to complete, and used 11,680 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A321 successfully landed at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, achieving a high score of 99.2%. The aircraft approached the runway from the west, heading 90.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,267 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with precision, and the aircraft landed smoothly on runway 08, which has a length of 3,219 meters.
The threshold height was satisfactory, and the threshold speed was maintained at 138 knots, indicating a well-executed approach. The touchdown distance of 363 meters was also within acceptable limits, and the touchdown speed of 135 knots was good. However, the touchdown rate of -232 feet per minute (fpm) was only fair, suggesting that the aircraft could have been brought down to the ground more smoothly.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.0 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the approach or a minor issue with the aircraft's navigation system. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 26°C and a gentle wind of 3 knots at 143°. The crosswind and headwind components were minimal, at 2 knots each, which further contributed to a smooth landing.
The total landing distance of 1,497 meters was 47% of the runway length, which is a reasonable figure considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft's brakes were applied smoothly and effectively, and the pilot maintained control of the aircraft throughout the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was successful, and the aircraft came to a stop in a safe and controlled manner.
