Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
At the 1,000 ft gate: sink rate above what the glideslope needed.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 2,316 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,316 m of the 3,716 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,202 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Djibouti-Ambouli Airport, the Boeing 777-300 initiated its departure roll on runway 09, accelerating to a liftoff speed of 189 kt. The takeoff distance of 1,431 meters, which accounted for 49% of the runway, was achieved within a short period. The aircraft then transitioned into a climb, ascending from 974 feet above sea level to 33,997 feet in 17 minutes, covering a distance of 118 nautical miles.
The enroute climb phase was punctuated by several level cruise segments, with the aircraft maintaining a steady altitude and airspeed. The first level cruise segment started 26 miles south of Asaita, lasting 77 minutes and covering 611 nautical miles. Subsequent level cruise segments took place 40 miles south of Shendi, 34 miles southwest of Shendi, and 29 miles southeast of DAIL Illizi Airport, with each segment lasting between 113 and 238 minutes and covering distances ranging from 797 to 1,615 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent, reducing its altitude from 37,993 feet to 1,959 feet in 21 minutes, covering 114 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 17L at Mohammed V International Airport was initiated from the north, with the aircraft maintaining a heading of 164.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,299 feet above ground level. The landing was executed with a touchdown speed of 135 kt, which was within the target range. However, the touchdown point was 732 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 7.1 meters from the centerline. The total landing distance of 2,181 meters, which accounted for 59% of the runway, was achieved within a reasonable timeframe. Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, completing the flight with a total distance of 3,286 nautical miles and a fuel consumption of 59,430 kilograms.
The Boeing 777-300 touched down on runway 17L at GMMN Mohammed V International Airport, marking a satisfactory conclusion to the approach. The aircraft's descent was characterized by a slightly above-target threshold height of 90 ft agl, which may have necessitated some adjustments to the approach path. However, the threshold speed of 142 kt was well within acceptable limits, indicating a smooth and controlled touchdown.
As the aircraft made contact with the runway, it touched down at a speed of 135 kt, which was good. The touchdown rate of -216 fpm was fair, suggesting a moderate deceleration. The touchdown point was located 732 m beyond the touchdown zone, which may have been influenced by the crosswind conditions. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 7.1 m from the centreline, although the rollout alignment was very good, indicating a high degree of control and precision during the final stages of the landing.
The total landing distance of 2,181 m was 59% of the runway length, which is within acceptable limits. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 23 °C and wind speeds of 17 kt at 220 °, contributed to a challenging approach. Despite these conditions, the pilot's skills and the aircraft's performance resulted in a score of 81.9%, indicating a satisfactory landing.
