Be on speed by the gate
Preparing for a stable approach will give you time to decide on whether to attempt the landing or going around. Too much altitude with a high sink rate will result in carrying too much speed onto the runway. Configuring flaps and the gear late also won't help the speed decay.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
At the 1,000 ft gate: speed 13 kt SLOW on the reference speed of 135 kt.
At the 500 ft gate: speed 14 kt SLOW on the reference speed of 135 kt.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,894 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 290 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The 1.70 G arrival is the firm side of smooth.
The rest of the report
The Airbus A220-300 taxied from the parking area to runway 22 at LCLK Larnaca International Airport, a movement that lasted 10 minutes and covered 3 nm.
During the departure roll on runway 22, the aircraft accelerated to a liftoff speed of 146 kt and left the ground after traveling 1,429 m, which represented 51 % of the runway length; ambient temperature was 30 °C with a wind of 2 kt from 280°, a cross-wind component of 1 kt and a head-wind component of 1 kt.
Climb commenced over Meneou, rising from 969 ft asl to 26,412 ft asl - an altitude gain of 25,442 ft - in 14 minutes while covering 81 nm.
The cruise segment began 37 mi west of Batroun, Lebanon, and continued for 164 minutes, during which the aircraft flew 1,174 nm at level altitude.
Descent started 35 mi west of OIBS Siri Airport, Iran, with the aircraft descending from 26,681 ft asl to 1,306 ft asl, a loss of 25,375 ft, in 16 minutes while traversing another 81 nm.
On final approach to runway 12L at OMDB Dubai International Airport, the aircraft descended from 1,329 ft agl to 55 ft agl in 114 seconds and was recorded as having scored on the stabilisation gates.
Landing on runway 12L was executed with a threshold speed of 123 kt (slightly below target), a touchdown distance of 287 m, a touchdown speed of 121 kt, and a hard touchdown rate of minus 563 fpm; runway length was 3,894 m, temperature 34 °C, wind 2 kt from 80°, cross-wind 1 kt and head-wind 1 kt, and the touchdown alignment was very good.
The rollout covered a total landing distance of 839 m, equivalent to 22 % of the runway, and the aircraft’s centreline alignment was offset by 8.6 m.
After landing, the aircraft taxied from the runway to the parking area in 9 minutes, covering a distance of 2 nm.
In total, the flight covered 1,348 nm, required 215 (units as reported), and consumed 7,105 kg of fuel.
The approach to runway 12L at OMDB was assessed as unstable at the 1,000 ft gate, being more than 5 kt below VREF. The aircraft descended from 1,329 ft agl to 55 ft agl in 114 seconds and was scored on the stabilisation gates.
At threshold the height was good and the threshold speed was slightly below target at 123 kt.
Touchdown occurred 287 m down the runway at a speed of 121 kt, with a very hard vertical rate of minus 563 fpm, while runway touchdown alignment was very good.
Rollout covered a total landing distance of 839 m, representing 22 % of the 3,894 m runway, and the aircraft was slightly misaligned by 8.6 m from the centreline.
Maintain approach speed within the VREF envelope to achieve a stable gate assessment, and refine flare timing to reduce the hard touchdown rate while preserving the good alignment already demonstrated.
