Fixing the bounce
Fast at the threshold, normal flare, and the runway seems to refuse the aircraft. The instinctive fix - pushing it on - causes the next one. A fast aircraft forced onto the runway touches nosewheel-first or nearly so. The tell is a touchdown that feels soft followed by a bounce that steepens. Pilots fix the bounce recovery; the cause was the 10 knots at the threshold.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,657 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,657 m of the 2,621 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 468 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, the Boeing 737-800 began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took approximately 5 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. With a takeoff distance of 1,440 meters, which equated to 46% of the available runway length, the aircraft lifted off from runway 25R at a liftoff speed of 152 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of departure featured a temperature of 30°C, with a wind speed of 12 knots from a direction of 309°, resulting in a crosswind of 8 knots and a headwind of 9 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to its enroute cruise altitude, it began its ascent from 2,170 feet above sea level, eventually reaching a height of 33,553 feet, an increase of 31,383 feet in 14 minutes and covering a distance of 76 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise phase started 5 miles southwest of Yav'pe Ma'ta Airport, lasting 60 minutes and covering 419 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent, reducing its altitude from 33,833 feet to 5,906 feet in 17 minutes and covering 104 nautical miles. Following a brief level cruise phase near Lauppes Strip, the aircraft continued its descent, eventually landing on runway 35L at Sacramento International Airport.
The final approach to runway 35L was made from the south, with the aircraft maintaining a heading of 1.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,290 feet above ground level. The landing was executed with a threshold speed of 136 knots, and the touchdown point was 52 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 132 knots and a rate of -160 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.3 meters from the centerline. The total landing distance was 1,577 meters, which equated to 60% of the available runway length. Following a smooth rollout, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, completing its journey with a total flight distance of 647 nautical miles and a fuel consumption of 4,895 kilograms.
The Boeing 737-800 touched down on runway 35L at KSMF Sacramento International Airport with a good threshold height, indicating a well-executed approach. The threshold speed of 136 kt was within acceptable limits, demonstrating the pilot's ability to manage the aircraft's descent and speed. However, the touchdown speed of 132 kt was slightly above the recommended threshold, which may have contributed to a slightly higher touchdown rate of -160 fpm.
The touchdown point was 52 m beyond the touchdown zone, which, while not ideal, was not excessively far off. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.3 m from the centreline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the approach or during the final stages of the landing. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 12 °C and a moderate headwind of 5 kt, were not particularly challenging, and the crosswind component of 7 kt was well within manageable limits.
The total landing distance of 1,577 m, which accounted for 60% of the runway length, was within acceptable limits. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the critical phases of the landing. Overall, the landing was considered satisfactory, with a score of 98.8% reflecting the minor deviations from optimal performance.
