Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 305 m and 152 m above the runway.
At the 152 m gate: speed above the reference speed.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,526 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,526 m of the 2,977 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 679 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Falcone–Borsellino Airport (LICJ), the Boeing 737-800 began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 16 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. Upon reaching runway 07, the aircraft initiated its departure roll, accelerating down the 1,290-meter stretch of the runway, which comprised 43% of its total length. At a liftoff speed of 153 knots, the aircraft successfully lifted off into the local weather conditions, characterized by a temperature of 16 °C and a wind of 9 knots at 50°.
As the aircraft climbed to its enroute altitude, it began its ascent from 333 meters above sea level to 11,329 meters, an increase of 10,995.6 meters, in just 19 minutes and covering a distance of 124 nautical miles. The climb phase was followed by a 32-minute level cruise, during which the aircraft maintained an altitude of 11,329 meters and covered a distance of 240 nautical miles, 80 miles south-west of Ponza, Italy. The descent phase commenced 22 miles south-west of Marina di Pisa, Italy, and lasted 28 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from 11,329 meters to 602 meters above sea level, a decrease of 10,726.8 meters, covering a distance of 138 nautical miles.
Upon reaching the final approach phase, the aircraft began its descent towards runway 35R at Milan Malpensa International Airport (LIMC), aligning itself with the runway from the south at a heading of 349.0°, 4 nautical miles from the threshold. The aircraft landed on the 2,977-meter-long runway, with a touchdown point 263 meters beyond the touchdown zone, at a speed of 136 knots, slightly above the target speed. The touchdown rate was good at -0.9 meters per second, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.9 meters from the centerline. The total landing distance was 1,446 meters, comprising 49% of the runway length. Following a smooth rollout, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, a process that took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 513 nautical miles, taking 96 minutes, and the aircraft used 3,678 kilograms of fuel during the journey.
The Boeing 737-800 touched down on runway 35R at LIMC Milan Malpensa International Airport with a threshold speed slightly above the target at 143 kt. The approach quality was good, with a stable and controlled descent from 380.0 m agl at 4 nm from the runway. The aircraft maintained a heading of 349.0 ° throughout the approach, aligning itself with the runway.
The touchdown point was 263 m beyond the touchdown zone, indicating a slight over-run. The touchdown speed of 136 kt was a little fast, but the touchdown rate of -0.9 m/s was good, indicating a controlled and smooth touchdown. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.9 m from the centreline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the approach or a slight crosswind component. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 9 °C and a headwind of 8 kt, may have also played a role in the slight misalignment.
The total landing distance of 1,446 m was 49 % of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing distance. The runway rollout alignment was very good, with the aircraft maintaining a straight and consistent path along the centreline. Overall, the landing was scored 95.0%, reflecting a good approach and touchdown, but some minor deviations in the touchdown position and speed.
