Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,548 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,548 ft of the 9,032 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,016 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 9 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, an Airbus A321, then departed from runway 22 at LaGuardia Airport (KLGA) in New York. The takeoff distance was 3,046 feet, which accounted for 43% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 147 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 28 degrees Fahrenheit and a wind speed of 22 knots at 299 degrees. The crosswind component was 22 knots, while the headwind component was 1 knot. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting overhead Jackson Heights in New York. During this phase, the aircraft climbed from an altitude of 1,042 feet above sea level to 34,470 feet above sea level, an increase of 33,428 feet, in 17 minutes and covering a distance of 93 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 1 mile south of the Free Spirit Airport in Vineland, New Jersey. This phase lasted for 101 minutes and covered a distance of 602 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 12 miles east of the Stafford Airport in Saint Marys, Georgia. During this phase, the aircraft descended from an altitude of 36,405 feet above sea level to 1,392 feet above sea level, a decrease of 35,013 feet, in 29 minutes and covering a distance of 145 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 35R at Orlando International Airport (KMCO) was made from the south, with a heading of 360.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,293 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 35R, which had a length of 9,032 feet. The threshold height was slightly above the target, and the threshold speed was also slightly above the target at 144 knots.
The touchdown point was 641 feet beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 135 knots, which was a little fast. However, the touchdown rate was good at -179 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 57 degrees Fahrenheit and a wind speed of 5 knots at 10 degrees. The crosswind component was 1 knot, while the headwind component was 5 knots.
The total landing distance was 5,273 feet, which accounted for 58% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect. After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking from the runway, which took 7 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 849 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 167 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 15,422 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 successfully landed at KMCO Orlando International Airport, achieving a score of 96.9%. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the south, heading 360.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,293 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was made to runway 35R, which has a length of 9,032 feet.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down slightly beyond the touchdown zone, at a point 641 feet from the threshold. The touchdown speed was recorded at 135 knots, which was a little fast, but the touchdown rate of -179 feet per minute (fpm) was considered good. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 57°F and a wind speed of 5 knots from a direction of 10°. This resulted in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 5 knots, which did not significantly impact the landing. The total landing distance was 5,273 feet, which is 58% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, indicating that the aircraft maintained its alignment with the runway during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft achieving a high score of 96.9%. The slight deviations from the target touchdown speed and threshold height were not significant enough to impact the overall performance of the landing.
