Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,500 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,500 ft of the 10,008 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,694 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (KMSY), the Boeing 737-800 began its journey on runway 20, taking off with a distance of 4,657 feet, which accounted for 66% of the runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 151 knots, with a local temperature of 83°F and a gentle headwind of 3 knots. As the aircraft departed the airport, it taxied for 8 minutes and covered 2 nautical miles to reach the runway.
The enroute climb phase commenced 1 mile southwest of Kenner, Louisiana, where the aircraft ascended from 1,011 feet above sea level to 39,000 feet, a vertical increase of 37,988 feet, in 23 minutes and covering 155 nautical miles. The climb was followed by a level cruise phase, which started 4 miles south of Hawthorn Pines Airport (6AL6) in Alabama, lasting 25 minutes and covering 194 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent phase, initially from 38,992 feet to 35,010 feet, a decrease of 3,982 feet, in 5 minutes and covering 39 nautical miles. This was followed by multiple level cruise phases, each lasting between 5 and 25 minutes, before the final descent phase began 6 miles east of Horseshoe Landing Airport (16SC) in South Carolina. The aircraft descended from 23,994 feet to 1,803 feet, a decrease of 22,191 feet, in 15 minutes and covering 68 nautical miles.
The Boeing 737-800 then began its final approach to runway 36C at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (KCLT), heading 358.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,066 feet above ground level. The aircraft landed on the runway, with a total landing distance of 5,248 feet, accounting for 52% of the runway. The touchdown speed was slightly above the target at 144 knots, but the touchdown rate was good at -172 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, and the runway rollout alignment was perfect. The total flight distance was 602 nautical miles, taking 101 minutes, and the aircraft used 8,984 pounds of fuel.
The Boeing 737-800 touched down on runway 36C at KCLT Charlotte Douglas International Airport with a satisfactory approach quality, despite a slightly above-target threshold speed of 144 kt. The aircraft maintained a good threshold height, allowing for a smooth transition into the touchdown phase. The touchdown point was 342 ft beyond the touchdown zone, indicating a slight over-shoot, while the touchdown speed of 138 kt was a little fast, but the touchdown rate of -172 fpm was within acceptable limits.
The runway touchdown alignment was very good, with the aircraft centered on the runway centerline. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 79 °F and a light wind of 2 kt at 200 °, contributed to a stable and predictable approach. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 kt, and the tailwind of 2 kt had a negligible effect on the landing. The aircraft's performance was satisfactory, considering the slightly above-target threshold speed and the fast touchdown speed.
The total landing distance of 5,248 ft was 52% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short rollout. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, with the aircraft maintaining its centerline alignment throughout the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was scored 99.2%, reflecting the satisfactory approach quality, good touchdown characteristics, and perfect rollout alignment.
