Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,611 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,611 m of the 2,441 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 610 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 17 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 22R at EKCH Copenhagen Kastrup Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,337 meters, which was 45% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 155 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 18°C and winds of 14 knots at 160 degrees. The crosswind was 12 knots, and the headwind was 7 knots. The enroute climb started 2 miles west of Dragor, Denmark, where the aircraft climbed from 1,064 feet above sea level to 4,970 feet above sea level, an increase of 3,907 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 8 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 9 miles southwest of Dragor and lasted 2 minutes, covering 5 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another climb 7 miles west of Skanoer med Falsterbo, Sweden, where it climbed from 5,032 feet above sea level to 30,831 feet above sea level, an increase of 25,799 feet in 14 minutes, covering a distance of 79 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 1 mile east of Splietsdorf, Germany, and lasted 9 minutes, covering 68 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another climb 4 miles northwest of Gumtow, Germany, where it climbed from 30,921 feet above sea level to 34,847 feet above sea level, an increase of 3,925 feet in 5 minutes, covering a distance of 38 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 1 mile northeast of Birkholz, Germany, and lasted 3 minutes, covering 26 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another climb overhead EDOZ Schönebeck-Zackmünde Airfield Pömmelte, Germany, where it climbed from 34,858 feet above sea level to 35,357 feet above sea level, an increase of 499 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 12 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 1 mile south of Ilberstedt, Germany, and lasted 71 minutes, covering 539 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent overhead Rio Marina, Italy, where it descended from 35,966 feet above sea level to 5,230 feet above sea level, a decrease of 30,736 feet in 21 minutes, covering a distance of 129 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 2 miles southwest of Calangianus, Italy, and lasted 3 minutes, covering 7 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent 3 miles east of Berchidda, Italy, where it descended from 4,941 feet above sea level to 1,577 feet above sea level, a decrease of 3,364 feet in 4 minutes, covering a distance of 10 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 05 at LIEO Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport was from the southwest, heading 55.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,534 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 05 was successful, with a touchdown point 127 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 138 knots, which was a little fast, and the touchdown rate was hard at -498 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 14.4 meters from the centerline, and the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 12.7 meters from the centerline. The total landing distance
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at LIEO Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport, but with some notable deviations from the ideal landing parameters. The final approach was initiated from the southwest, heading 55.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,534 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 05, which has a length of 2,441 meters.
The threshold height at 80 feet agl was significantly above the target, indicating that the aircraft was higher than desired at the point of touchdown. However, the threshold speed was satisfactory at 142 knots, suggesting that the pilot had maintained control and was on track for a smooth landing. The touchdown point was located 127 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which may have been due to the aircraft's speed at the time of touchdown.
The touchdown speed of 138 knots was slightly faster than the ideal speed, contributing to a hard touchdown rate of -498 feet per minute (fpm). This may have put additional stress on the aircraft's landing gear and could have resulted in a bumpy ride for passengers. Furthermore, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 14.4 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to crosswind or pilot error.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 24°C and a gentle wind of 8 knots at 70°. The crosswind component was minimal at 2 knots, while the headwind component was 8 knots, which may have contributed to the slight misalignment of the runway touchdown position.
The total landing distance of 1,463 meters was 60% of the runway length, indicating that the aircraft had sufficient stopping power to come to a safe stop. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 12.7 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to the pilot's difficulty in maintaining alignment during the rollout phase.
Overall, while the landing was successful, there were several areas for improvement, including maintaining a lower threshold height, reducing the touchdown speed, and improving the runway touchdown position and rollout alignment.
