Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,716 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 566 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft, an Airbus A321, taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport, which took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The departure roll took place on runway 36L, and the takeoff distance was 1,819 meters, which accounted for 54% of the runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 175 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to its cruising altitude, it started its enroute climb 2 miles south east of San Sebastian de los Reyes, in the Comunidad de Madrid, Spain. The climb took 27 minutes, during which the aircraft ascended from 2,982 feet above sea level to 35,066 feet above sea level, covering a distance of 120 nautical miles. This represented an increase of 32,084 feet in altitude.
After reaching its cruising altitude, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 10 miles north east of Santa Eufemia, in Andalusia, Spain. This phase lasted for 38 minutes and covered a distance of 254 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started 81 miles west of Larache, in the Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region of Morocco. The descent took 20 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from 35,058 feet above sea level to 1,944 feet above sea level, covering a distance of 110 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 17L at Mohammed V International Airport took place from the north, with the aircraft heading 164.0 degrees at an altitude of 4 nautical miles and 1,287 feet above ground level. The landing took place on runway 17L, which had a length of 3,716 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 139 knots. The touchdown point was 151 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 133 knots, which was considered good. However, the touchdown rate was fair at -294 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.4 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 14 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 2 knots at 200 degrees. The crosswind was 1 knot, and the headwind was also 1 knot. The total landing distance was 1,325 meters, which accounted for 36% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good.
After landing, the aircraft taxiied to the parking area, which took 2 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 492 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 95 minutes. The aircraft used 4,759 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 successfully landed at GMMN Mohammed V International Airport, achieving a score of 96.5%. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the north, heading 164.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,287 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was made to runway 17L, which has a length of 3,716 meters.
The aircraft's performance during the landing was satisfactory, with a good threshold height and a threshold speed of 139 knots. The touchdown point was 151 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is slightly off-center but not significantly so. The touchdown speed of 133 knots was also within acceptable limits, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. However, the touchdown rate of -294 feet per minute (fpm) was only fair, suggesting that the aircraft could have been brought down more gently.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 14°C and a wind speed of 2 knots from 200°. This resulted in a negligible crosswind and headwind, making the landing conditions favorable. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.4 meters from the centerline, which may have contributed to the slightly off-center touchdown point.
The total landing distance of 1,325 meters was 36% of the runway length, which is within acceptable limits. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was able to maintain a stable and controlled path after touchdown. Overall, the landing was successful, with the aircraft achieving a high score despite some minor deviations from optimal performance.
