Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: seven checks where the approach path is 300 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out. These checks are the approach's score.
At the 300 ft gate: no landing flap set.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 7,101 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 1,634 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Flugplatz Nordhorn-Lingen, the XCub began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took approximately 8 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. With the local weather conditions favorable, with a temperature of 60 °F and a gentle wind of 10 kt at 10 °, the aircraft took off from runway 05, utilizing only 536 feet of the available runway, which accounted for 24% of its length. The liftoff speed was achieved at 64 kt, marking the beginning of the aircraft's ascent.
As the XCub climbed away from the departure airport, it transitioned into an enroute climb, which started approximately 1 mile east of the airport. The aircraft successfully climbed from an initial altitude of 806 feet above sea level to 718 feet, an increase of 88 feet, in less than 1 minute, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 14 minutes and covered a distance of 29 nautical miles. The cruise phase was characterized by a stable and efficient flight, allowing the aircraft to conserve fuel and maintain a steady pace.
Upon approaching Münster Osnabrück Airport, the XCub began its final descent, aligning itself with runway 07 from the southwest. The aircraft touched down on the runway, with a touchdown speed of 39 kt and a touchdown rate of -170 fpm, both of which were within acceptable limits. The touchdown point was located 172 feet beyond the touchdown zone, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 13 feet from the centerline. The total landing distance was 1,878 feet, accounting for 29% of the available runway length. Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, a process that took approximately 1 minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 33 nautical miles, and the aircraft used 17 pounds of fuel during the journey, which took approximately 19 minutes to complete.
The final approach to runway 07 at EDDG Münster Osnabrück Airport from the south west was executed with a heading of 70.0° at 1 nm and 266 ft above ground level. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a good threshold height achieved. However, the threshold speed was above the target, registering 63 kt, which may indicate a slight delay in the flare.
The touchdown characteristics were good, with a speed of 39 kt and a touchdown rate of -170 fpm. However, the touchdown point was 172 ft beyond the touchdown zone, indicating a slight over-shoot. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 13 ft from the centreline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the approach or during the flare. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 59 °F and wind at 10 kt at 11°, contributed to a crosswind of 9 kt and a headwind of 5 kt.
The total landing distance of 1,878 ft was 29% of the runway length, which is within acceptable limits. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating a smooth and controlled deceleration after touchdown. Overall, the landing was satisfactory, with a score of 94.6%, indicating a high level of proficiency in the landing phase.
