Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,006 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 566 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from SOCA Cayenne – Félix Eboué Airport, the Boeing 737-900 began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took approximately 4 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. As the aircraft reached the runway threshold, it initiated its departure roll on runway 08, accelerating to a liftoff speed of 150 knots. The takeoff distance of 1,438 meters, which accounted for 45% of the runway, was achieved in a relatively short period, considering the local weather conditions, with a temperature of 28 °C and a gentle tailwind of 1 knot.
As the aircraft climbed out of Cayenne, it began its enroute climb, which started approximately 1 mile southwest of Matoury, French Guiana. The climb phase was characterized by a significant increase in altitude, from 989 feet above sea level to 36,732 feet, a total ascent of 35,744 feet, which was achieved in 41 minutes and covered a distance of 295 nautical miles. Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 162 minutes and covered a distance of 1,405 nautical miles, with the aircraft maintaining a steady altitude of 36,732 feet. The cruise phase was followed by a descent phase, which began approximately 63 miles southwest of GVSV São Pedro Airport, São Pedro, Cape Verde. The descent from 36,840 feet to 2,031 feet, a decrease of 34,809 feet, was achieved in 23 minutes and covered a distance of 173 nautical miles.
As the aircraft continued its journey, it entered a brief level cruise phase, lasting only 2 minutes, before initiating its final approach to runway 01 at GVAC Amílcar Cabral International Airport. The approach was made from the south, with the aircraft maintaining a heading of 360.0° at an altitude of 1,261 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway threshold. The landing was executed with a threshold speed slightly above the target, at 147 knots, and a touchdown speed of 139 knots, which was a little fast. However, the touchdown rate was smooth, at -136 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. The total landing distance was 1,107 meters, which accounted for 37% of the runway. Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, a process that took approximately 2 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,890 nautical miles, which was achieved in 237 minutes, and the aircraft used a total of 11,821 kilograms of fuel.
The Boeing 737-900 touched down on runway 01 at GVAC Amílcar Cabral International Airport with a smooth touchdown rate of -136 fpm, slightly above the target threshold speed of 145 kt, at 147 kt. The aircraft's approach quality was good, with a stable and controlled descent from 1,261 ft agl at 4 nm from the runway. The touchdown point was 141 m beyond the touchdown zone, indicating a slight over-shoot.
The touchdown speed of 139 kt was a little fast, but the aircraft's centreline alignment was perfect, both during the touchdown and the subsequent rollout. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, with the aircraft maintaining its centreline position as it slowed down. The total landing distance of 1,107 m was 37% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing distance.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favourable, with a temperature of 25 °C and a headwind of 9 kt. The wind was blowing at 10 kt from 20 °, resulting in a crosswind of 3 kt. Overall, the landing was considered to be of high quality, with a score of 98.6%. The slight deviations from the target threshold speed and touchdown speed were minor and did not significantly impact the overall performance of the landing.
