Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,524 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 305 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 05 at Solent Airport, EGHF. The aircraft, a Cessna C172, accelerated down the runway and lifted off at a speed of 65 kt, covering a takeoff distance of 142 m, which was 12% of the runway length.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it leveled off at a cruise altitude, starting overhead Solent Airport in Lee-on-Solent, Hampshire, England. This initial cruise phase lasted for 2 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nm. The local weather conditions at the time were characterized by a temperature of 11 °C.
The flight then began its final approach to landing, with the aircraft descending from 1 nm to 1 nm at an altitude of 564 ft above ground level (agl) overhead Wallington, Hampshire, England. However, the pilot decided to initiate a go-around, pulling the aircraft up to 429 ft agl. This was followed by another go-around at 867 ft agl.
After the second go-around, the pilot began a final approach to landing, descending from 44 ft agl to 0 ft agl in just 6 seconds. The touchdown speed was slightly too fast at 70 kt, but the touchdown rate was perfect at 173 ft per minute (fpm). The touchdown distance was also good, covering 276 m.
Following the touchdown, the aircraft began its landing rollout, covering a distance of 22 m at an altitude of 100 ft above sea level (asl). The total flight distance was 5 nm, and the flight duration was 10 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 5 kg of fuel during the flight.
The Cessna C172 aircraft successfully landed at Wallington in Hampshire, England, with a score of 67.7%. The final approach to landing was initiated from a height of 564 feet above ground level (agl) at a distance of 1 nautical mile from the landing site. As the aircraft descended, it approached the touchdown point overhead Wallington, with a significant decrease in altitude from 44 feet agl to 0 feet agl in just 6 seconds.
The touchdown speed of 70 knots was slightly too fast, indicating that the pilot may have needed to apply more braking or reduce the descent rate to achieve a more optimal touchdown speed. However, the touchdown rate of 173 feet per minute (fpm) was perfect, suggesting that the pilot had maintained control and managed the descent effectively. The touchdown distance of 276 meters was also considered good, indicating that the pilot had successfully controlled the aircraft's speed and descent rate.
Following the touchdown, the aircraft underwent a landing rollout, during which it maintained an altitude of 100 feet above sea level (asl). The distance covered during the rollout was 22 meters, which was relatively short. Overall, while there were some minor issues with the touchdown speed, the pilot's performance during the landing was generally good, and the aircraft was successfully brought to a stop in a controlled manner. The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of 11 degrees Celsius.
