Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,600 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,600 m of the 2,783 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 598 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft, an Airbus A320, taxiing from the parking area to the runway at EDDB Berlin Brandenburg Airport. This process took 9 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 24R, with the aircraft taking off after covering 51% of the runway's length. The takeoff distance was 1,524 meters, and the liftoff speed was 159 knots.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it encountered local weather conditions of 10°C temperature and a wind speed of 24 knots from a direction of 240°. The crosswind component was 4 knots, while the headwind component was 23 knots. The enroute climb started overhead EDDB Berlin Brandenburg Airport and continued for 20 minutes, during which the aircraft ascended from 1,189 feet above sea level to 34,911 feet above sea level, covering a distance of 110 nautical miles.
Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which began overhead Bilzingsleben in Thuringia, Germany. This phase lasted for 48 minutes and covered a distance of 178 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent, which started 1 mile south of Weil im Schonbuch in Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany. The descent took 20 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from 35,482 feet above sea level to 2,147 feet above sea level, covering a distance of 84 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 15 at LFSB EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg was made from the northwest, with the aircraft heading 155.0° at an altitude of 1,258 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing took place on a runway with a length of 2,783 meters, and the threshold height was good. The threshold speed was also good at 137 knots.
The touchdown point was 183 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 129 knots, which was slightly fast. The touchdown rate was firm at -339 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 3.3 meters. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 13°C temperature and a wind speed of 9 knots from a direction of 160°, with a crosswind component of 1 knot and a headwind component of 9 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,520 meters, which was 55% of the runway's length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area, a process that took 4 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 380 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 79 minutes. The aircraft used 2,975 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at LFSB EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg, achieving a score of 94.4%. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the north-west, heading 155.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,258 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with good control, and the aircraft landed on runway 15, which has a length of 2,783 meters.
The threshold height was satisfactory, and the threshold speed was maintained at 137 knots, indicating a well-executed approach. However, the touchdown point was slightly beyond the designated touchdown zone, at a distance of 183 meters. The touchdown speed of 129 knots was a bit faster than ideal, which may have contributed to the slightly firm touchdown rate of -339 feet per minute (fpm).
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 3.3 meters, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the approach or during the landing roll. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 13°C and a headwind of 9 knots at 160°. The crosswind was minimal, at 1 knot, which helped to reduce the impact of any potential crosswind effects.
The total landing distance was 1,520 meters, which is 55% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the aircraft was well-controlled throughout the approach and landing phases. The runway rollout alignment was very good, suggesting that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the landing roll and was able to align the aircraft with the centerline of the runway.
Overall, the landing was executed with good control and precision, and the pilot demonstrated a high level of skill and experience. However, there were a few minor deviations from ideal performance, including the slightly fast touchdown speed and the misaligned runway touchdown position.
