Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,170 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,170 ft of the 10,560 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,330 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking area to the runway, which took 9 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-700, then departed from runway 08 at KGEG Spokane International Airport. The takeoff distance was 5,267 feet, which accounted for 64% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 147 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 95 degrees Fahrenheit and a wind speed of 2 knots at 179 degrees. The crosswind was 2 knots, and the headwind was 0 knots. After departing from KGEG, the aircraft began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile east of the airport and climbing from 3,351 feet above sea level to 37,116 feet above sea level, an increase of 33,766 feet in 18 minutes and covering 121 nautical miles.
The enroute climb continued until the aircraft reached a cruising altitude, where it leveled off and began its enroute level cruise. This phase of the flight started 2 miles east of KGRL Grangeville Airport and lasted for 100 minutes, covering a distance of 628 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 14 miles west of Valle, Arizona, and descending from 37,339 feet above sea level to 3,298 feet above sea level, a decrease of 34,042 feet in 26 minutes and covering 136 nautical miles.
The aircraft then began another enroute climb, starting 4 miles south of AZ25 Tri-Rotor Ag Services Airport and climbing from 3,333 feet above sea level to 3,982 feet above sea level, an increase of 649 feet in 2 minutes and covering 4 nautical miles. The aircraft then leveled off and began another enroute level cruise, starting 3 miles northwest of Apache Junction, Arizona, and lasting for 20 minutes, covering a distance of 9 nautical miles.
The aircraft then began its final descent, starting 1 mile northeast of Mesa, Arizona, and descending from 3,992 feet above sea level to 2,412 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,581 feet in 2 minutes and covering 6 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 26 at KPHX Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, flying from the east and heading 270.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,279 feet above ground level.
The aircraft landed on runway 26, which had a length of 10,560 feet. The threshold height was above the target, and the threshold speed was well above the target at 139 knots. The touchdown point was 945 feet beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 132 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was fair at -240 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 108 degrees Fahrenheit and a wind speed of 4 knots at 299 degrees. The crosswind was 2 knots, and the headwind was 3 knots. The total landing distance was 4,885 feet, which accounted for 46% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The total flight distance was 912 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 164 minutes. The aircraft used 14,937 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-700 aircraft successfully landed at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (KPHX) on runway 26. The final approach was initiated from the east, heading 270.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,279 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's performance during the landing was evaluated, and it scored 90.0%.
The aircraft's approach to the runway was satisfactory, with a threshold height of 68 feet agl, which was above the target. However, the threshold speed of 139 knots was significantly higher than the target, indicating that the pilot may have been pushing the aircraft to land as quickly as possible. This could be a concern, as excessive speed during landing can increase the risk of a hard landing or loss of control.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft landed 945 feet beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively long distance. The touchdown speed of 132 knots was also a bit faster than ideal, and the touchdown rate of -240 feet per minute (fpm) was only fair. Despite these issues, the runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were hot, with a temperature of 108°F, and a relatively light wind of 4 knots from 299°. The crosswind component was minimal at 2 knots, while the headwind component was 3 knots. The total landing distance of 4,885 feet was 46% of the runway length, which is a relatively long distance. However, the runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase.
Overall, while the landing was not perfect, the pilot demonstrated good control of the aircraft during the final approach and touchdown phases. However, there are areas for improvement, such as reducing the threshold speed and touchdown speed to more ideal values.
