Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 8,585 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 1,561 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport (KATL), the Airbus A319 began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 12 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. As the aircraft lined up on runway 08R, the local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 72°F and a gentle wind of 2 knots from 220°. The takeoff roll commenced, and the aircraft lifted off the ground at a speed of 154 knots, utilizing 51% of the available runway length of 5,111 feet.
As the aircraft climbed away from KATL, it began its enroute climb phase, which started overhead Hapeville, Georgia. The aircraft ascended from an initial altitude of 1,965 feet above sea level to a cruising altitude of 26,948 feet, an increase of 24,983 feet in just 10 minutes, covering a distance of 58 nautical miles. Following a brief level cruise phase, the aircraft began its descent, which started 6 miles south of Washington, Georgia. The descent phase was notable for its steepness, with the aircraft decreasing in altitude by 25,084 feet in 15 minutes, covering a distance of 82 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 11 at KCAE Columbia Metropolitan Airport was initiated from the west, with the aircraft maintaining a heading of 97.0° at an altitude of 1,617 feet above ground level.
The approach phase was marked by a go-around at 1,238 feet above ground level, but the aircraft eventually landed safely on runway 11, which had a length of 8,585 feet. The touchdown point was 197 feet beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was slightly above target at 124 knots. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 13 feet from the centerline, but the runway rollout alignment was very good. The total landing distance was 2,994 feet, which accounted for 35% of the available runway length. Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, a process that took 2 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 204 nautical miles, and the aircraft used 4,972 pounds of fuel during the journey, which took a total of 56 minutes.
The final approach to runway 11 at KCAE Columbia Metropolitan Airport from the west was initiated at 3 nm and 1,617 ft above ground level, heading 97.0°. The approach quality was satisfactory, with the threshold height at 70 ft above ground level being well above the target. The threshold speed of 131 kt was slightly above the target, indicating a slight increase in power application during the final stages of the approach.
As the aircraft touched down on the runway, the touchdown point was 197 ft beyond the touchdown zone, indicating a slight over-run. The touchdown speed of 124 kt was a little fast, and the touchdown rate of -459 fpm was hard, suggesting a possible reduction in power during the flare. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 13 ft from the centreline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the approach path. Despite this, the local weather conditions, with a temperature of 70 °F and a wind of 4 kt at 200°, were generally favourable for the landing.
The total landing distance of 2,994 ft was 35% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing. The runway rollout alignment was very good, with the aircraft maintaining a consistent path along the centreline. Overall, the landing was considered satisfactory, with a score of 90.0%. While there were some minor deviations from the target, the pilot's skills and the aircraft's performance were sufficient to ensure a safe and controlled landing.
