Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,796 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,796 ft of the 9,425 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 3,100 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 8 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-700, then departed from runway 20 at KRIC Richmond International Airport. The takeoff distance was 3,591 feet, which accounted for 54% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 141 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 67°F and a wind speed of 3 knots at 219°. The crosswind was 1 knot, and the headwind was 3 knots. After departing from KRIC, the aircraft began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile southwest of the airport and climbing from an altitude of 1,245 feet above sea level to 10,615 feet above sea level, an increase of 9,370 feet in just 3 minutes. This climb covered a distance of 12 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 3 miles northeast of W96 New Kent Co Quinton, Virginia, and lasted for 12 minutes, covering a distance of 73 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 2 miles north of 1MD1 Big Oak Farm Airport Cambridge, Maryland, and descending from 10,977 feet above sea level to 1,430 feet above sea level, a decrease of 9,547 feet in 10 minutes. This descent covered a distance of 36 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 28 at KBWI Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport was made from the east, heading 274.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,275 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 28 was successful, with the touchdown point being 1,722 feet beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 125 knots, which was a little fast, but the touchdown rate was smooth at -118 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 63°F and a wind speed of 2 knots at 310°, with a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 1 knot. The total landing distance was 5,518 feet, which accounted for 59% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking, which took 5 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 129 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 38 minutes. The aircraft used 3,207 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-700 aircraft successfully landed at KBWI Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport with a score of 85.7%. The final approach to runway 28 was initiated from the east, heading 274.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,275 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down 1,722 feet beyond the touchdown zone, which is a significant deviation from the target. The touchdown speed of 125 knots was slightly above the target, indicating that the pilot may have been able to flare the aircraft more effectively to achieve a smoother touchdown. However, the touchdown rate of -118 feet per minute (fpm) was smooth, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 63°F and a wind speed of 2 knots from 310°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, and the headwind component was also 1 knot. These conditions would have made the landing relatively straightforward.
The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilot maintained the correct heading and alignment with the runway during the final approach. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, suggesting that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase.
The total landing distance of 5,518 feet was 59% of the runway length, which is a relatively long landing distance. However, given the touchdown point was 1,722 feet beyond the touchdown zone, this is not unexpected. Overall, the landing was successful, but there is room for improvement in terms of touchdown speed and touchdown point accuracy.
