Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,901 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,901 m of the 2,672 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 592 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 4 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The Airbus A321 then departed from runway 02 at Nadi International Airport (NFFN), with a takeoff distance of 1,216 meters, which accounted for 38% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 156 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions of 30°C temperature and a wind speed of 2 knots at 60°. The crosswind was 1 knot, while the headwind was 2 knots. The enroute climb started overhead Nadi International Airport, with the aircraft ascending from 815 feet above sea level to 34,925 feet above sea level, an increase of 34,110 feet in 33 minutes, covering a distance of 228 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began 70 miles south of Lakeba Island Airport, and lasted for 18 minutes, covering 153 nautical miles. The descent started 80 miles west of Nuku'alofa, Tongatapu, and the aircraft descended from 34,741 feet above sea level to 1,387 feet above sea level, a decrease of 33,354 feet in 18 minutes, covering a distance of 90 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 29 at Fua'amotu International Airport (NFTF) was made from the southeast, heading 302.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,266 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 29, which had a length of 2,672 meters, was successful, with the threshold height being well above the target and the threshold speed being slightly above target at 146 knots.
The touchdown point was 182 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 139 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was fair at -268 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 7.5 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 27°C temperature and a wind speed of 6 knots at 20°, with a crosswind of 5 knots and a headwind of 1 knot.
The total landing distance was 1,825 meters, which accounted for 68% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing to the parking area from the runway took 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 480 nautical miles, taking 84 minutes, and the aircraft used 4,239 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed at Fua'amotu International Airport, with a score of 86.6%. The final approach to runway 29 was initiated from the south east, heading 302.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,266 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on runway 29, which has a length of 2,672 meters. The threshold height at 76 feet agl was found to be well above the target, indicating a slight deviation from the ideal landing conditions. The threshold speed was also slightly above the target at 146 knots, which may have contributed to the subsequent touchdown speed.
The touchdown point was located 182 meters beyond the touchdown zone, indicating a slight overrun. The touchdown speed of 139 knots was a little fast, which may have resulted in a higher touchdown rate. However, the touchdown rate of -268 feet per minute (fpm) was considered fair.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 7.5 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to the crosswind or pilot error. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 27°C, a wind speed of 6 knots at 20°, with a crosswind of 5 knots and a headwind of 1 knot.
The total landing distance of 1,825 meters was 68% of the runway length, which is within the acceptable range. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was able to maintain a stable and controlled descent after touchdown. Overall, while there were some minor deviations from the ideal landing conditions, the Airbus A321 aircraft was able to land safely and efficiently at Fua'amotu International Airport.
