Work on the flare
See Arrival Landing
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,537 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,537 m of the 2,211 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 715 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking to the runway at Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport, taking 7 minutes and covering a distance of 1 nautical mile. The departure roll took place on runway 31L, with a takeoff distance of 1,382 meters, which is 46% of the runway length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 157 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to a higher altitude, it encountered local weather conditions of 10°C temperature and a wind speed of 11 knots at 310°. The crosswind was negligible, but the aircraft experienced a headwind of 11 knots. The enroute climb started 2 miles east of Kispest, Budapest, and the aircraft climbed from 1,458 feet above sea level to 35,422 feet above sea level, an increase of 33,964 feet in 20 minutes, covering a distance of 133 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered a level cruise phase, starting 3 miles south of Velika Cresnjevica, Croatia, and lasted for 3 minutes, covering 24 nautical miles. However, this was short-lived, as the aircraft began another climb phase 1 mile east of Sartovac, Croatia, and climbed from 35,963 feet to 36,772 feet above sea level, an increase of 809 feet in 2 minutes, covering 7 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered a descent phase, starting 2 miles southwest of Repusnica, Croatia, and descended from 36,682 feet to 36,011 feet above sea level, a decrease of 671 feet in 2 minutes, covering 12 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, starting 1 mile east of Majur, Croatia, and lasted for 23 minutes, covering 178 nautical miles.
As the aircraft continued its journey, it entered another descent phase, starting 17 miles northeast of Silvi, Italy, and descended from 36,026 feet to 3,233 feet above sea level, a decrease of 32,793 feet in 21 minutes, covering 115 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, starting 1 mile southeast of LIRU Rome Urbe Airport, Rome, and lasted for 11 minutes, covering 35 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 15 at LIRA Ciampino–G. B. Pastine International Airport took place from the northwest, heading 153.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,270 feet above ground level. The landing took place on runway 15, which has a length of 2,211 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 141 knots.
The touchdown point was 300 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 133 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was fair at -268 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 13°C temperature and a wind speed of 3 knots at 254°, with a crosswind of 3 knots and a tailwind of 1 knot.
The total landing distance was 1,457 meters, which is 66% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also very good. After landing, the aircraft taxiied to the parking from the runway, taking 5 minutes and covering a distance of 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 512 nautical miles, taking 93 minutes, and the aircraft used 4,261 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed at LIRA Ciampino–G. B. Pastine International Airport, achieving a score of 92.0%. The final approach to runway 15 was initiated from the north-west, heading 153.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,270 feet above ground level (agl).
The aircraft touched down on the runway, with the threshold height being satisfactory. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 141 kt. The touchdown point was located 300 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which may indicate a slight deviation from the intended landing spot. The touchdown speed of 133 kt was a bit faster than desired, and the touchdown rate of -268 feet per minute (fpm) was considered fair.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 13°C and a wind speed of 3 kt from 254°. The crosswind component was 3 kt, while the tailwind component was 1 kt. Despite these conditions, the aircraft maintained a very good runway touchdown alignment.
The total landing distance covered by the aircraft was 1,457 meters, which accounted for 66% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, indicating a smooth and controlled deceleration of the aircraft after touchdown. Overall, the landing was considered satisfactory, with some minor deviations from the ideal performance.
