Work on the flare
See Arrival Landing
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,416 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,416 ft of the 8,994 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,862 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 9 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 09 at George Bush Intercontinental Houston Airport (KIAH). The takeoff distance was 5,515 feet, which was 55% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 161 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to its cruising altitude, it encountered local weather conditions of 43°F temperature and winds of 6 knots at 30°. The crosswind was 5 knots, and the headwind was 3 knots. The enroute climb started 2 miles southwest of Humble, Texas, and reached an altitude of 31,001 feet above sea level (asl) after an increase of 29,934 feet in 18 minutes, covering a distance of 125 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered a level cruise, starting 4 miles northwest of Center, Texas, and lasted for 78 minutes, covering a distance of 696 nautical miles. The enroute climb started again 1 mile east of Roanoke Airport in Roanoke, Indiana, and reached an altitude of 34,587 feet asl after an increase of 3,596 feet in 3 minutes, covering a distance of 33 nautical miles.
The aircraft continued its level cruise, starting 5 miles northeast of Hicksville, Ohio, and lasted for 16 minutes, covering a distance of 142 nautical miles. As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its descent, starting 6 miles southeast of Petrolia, Ontario, Canada. The descent from 34,880 feet asl to 31,006 feet asl took 5 minutes, covering a distance of 18 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting 1 mile northeast of Highgate Airport in Highgate, Ontario, Canada, and lasted for 3 minutes, covering a distance of 14 nautical miles. The enroute descent started again 5 miles west of Melbourne Airport in Melbourne, Ontario, Canada, and reached an altitude of 24,223 feet asl after a decrease of 6,347 feet in 3 minutes, covering a distance of 28 nautical miles.
The aircraft continued its level cruise, starting 2 miles northeast of London/Watson Airfield in London, Ontario, Canada, and lasted for 5 minutes, covering a distance of 28 nautical miles. The enroute descent started again 8 miles north of Stratford Municipal Airport in Stratford, Ontario, Canada, and reached an altitude of 4,121 feet asl after a decrease of 19,625 feet in 13 minutes, covering a distance of 70 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting 1 mile north of Victoria Village, Ontario, Canada, and lasted for 3 minutes, covering a distance of 5 nautical miles. The enroute descent started again overhead Bathurst Manor, Ontario, Canada, and reached an altitude of 1,844 feet asl after a decrease of 1,870 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 5 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 24L at Toronto Lester B. Pearson International Airport (CYYZ) was made from the northeast, heading 227.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,286 feet above ground level (agl). The landing on runway 24L was made at a threshold height of 59 feet agl, which was slightly above the target. The threshold speed was also slightly above the target at 149 knots.
The touchdown point was 495 feet beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 144 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was fair at -247 feet per minute (
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at CYYZ Toronto Lester B. Pearson International Airport on runway 24L. The final approach was initiated from the northeast, heading 227.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,286 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a steady course throughout the approach, ultimately touching down on the runway.
The touchdown point was located 495 feet beyond the designated touchdown zone, which indicates a slight deviation from the intended landing spot. However, the touchdown speed of 144 knots was slightly above the target speed, resulting in a touchdown rate of -247 feet per minute (fpm), which was considered fair. The runway touchdown position was also slightly misaligned by 10 feet from the centerline, but the runway rollout alignment was very good.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 10°F and a wind speed of 4 knots from a direction of 280°. The crosswind component was minimal at 3 knots, while the headwind component was 2 knots. These conditions did not appear to significantly impact the landing, as the aircraft was able to maintain control and touch down safely on the runway.
The total landing distance was 5,149 feet, which represents 57% of the available runway length of 8,994 feet. This indicates that the aircraft had sufficient runway remaining to safely stop after touchdown. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with a score of 97.4%.
