Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,604 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,604 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 643 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft, an Airbus A319, taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, Thailand. This process took 5 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The departure roll took place on runway 19L, and the aircraft lifted off after a takeoff distance of 445 meters, which accounted for 11% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 150 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 33 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 9 knots from a direction of 190 degrees. The crosswind was minimal at 1 knot, while the headwind was 9 knots. The enroute climb began approximately 1 mile south of Suvarnabhumi Airport and saw the aircraft ascend from an altitude of 1,023 feet above sea level to 32,264 feet, a total increase of 31,240 feet over a distance of 122 nautical miles in 23 minutes.
The enroute descent started 15 miles east of Prachuap Airport and involved the aircraft descending from 32,308 feet to 1,408 feet, a decrease of 30,900 feet over a distance of 126 nautical miles in 23 minutes. The final approach to runway 17 at Samui Airport was made from the north, with the aircraft heading 174.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,347 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway.
The landing took place on runway 17, which had a length of 1,604 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 129 knots. However, the touchdown point was 222 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was a little fast at 127 knots. The touchdown rate was firm at -395 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.8 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 29 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 3 knots from a direction of 180 degrees, with a crosswind of 0 knots and a headwind of 3 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,524 meters, which accounted for 95% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating a smooth and controlled landing. The taxiing process from the runway to the parking area took 1 minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 256 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 55 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 2,476 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A319 aircraft successfully landed at VTSM Samui Airport, achieving an overall score of 82.1%. The final approach to runway 17 was initiated from the north, with a heading of 174.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,347 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway, with a threshold speed of 129 knots, which was considered good. However, the touchdown point was located 222 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, indicating that the aircraft landed slightly further down the runway than intended. The touchdown speed of 127 knots was also a bit faster than desired, resulting in a firm touchdown rate of -395 feet per minute (fpm).
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 3.8 meters, which may have been due to factors such as wind or pilot error. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 29°C, with a wind speed of 3 knots from a direction of 180°. This resulted in a negligible crosswind component, but a headwind of 3 knots, which may have contributed to the slightly faster touchdown speed.
The total landing distance of 1,524 meters was 95% of the available runway length, indicating that the aircraft had sufficient stopping distance to safely come to a stop. The runway rollout alignment was very good, suggesting that the pilots maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase.
Overall, while the landing was not perfect, the Airbus A319 aircraft demonstrated a high level of proficiency in terms of speed and alignment. However, the slightly faster touchdown speed and misaligned touchdown position may indicate areas for improvement in future training exercises.
