Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,695 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 402 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 4 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Citation CJ3+ with the registration N60US, then departed from runway 03 at LIMZ Cuneo International Airport. The takeoff distance was 554 meters, which accounted for 26% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 126 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 29 °C, with a wind speed of 8 knots at a direction of 60 °.
The enroute climb started overhead LIMZ Cuneo International Airport, with the aircraft ascending from an initial altitude of 2,279 feet above sea level to a maximum altitude of 40,397 feet above sea level. This climb phase covered a distance of 54 nautical miles and took 12 minutes to complete. The aircraft then entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 41 minutes and covered a distance of 253 nautical miles. This phase took place 4 miles northwest of Locana, Italy.
The enroute descent phase began 2 miles south of Chenoise, France, and lasted for 26 minutes. During this phase, the aircraft descended from an altitude of 39,536 feet above sea level to 1,788 feet above sea level, covering a distance of 92 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 22 at LFOP Rouen Vallée de Seine Airport was made from the northeast, with the aircraft heading 222.0 ° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,275 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 22 was successful, with the aircraft touching down at a speed of 104 knots and a touchdown rate of -171 feet per minute. The touchdown distance was 404 meters, which was within the acceptable limits. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 8.0 meters. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 16 °C, with a wind speed of 7 knots at a direction of 299 °.
The total landing distance was 955 meters, which accounted for 56% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned from the centerline by 8.3 meters. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 3 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 406 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 90 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 627 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Citation CJ3+ aircraft, registered as N60US, successfully landed at LFOP Rouen Vallée de Seine Airport, achieving a high score of 96.1%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north-east, heading 222.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,275 feet above ground level (agl).
The pilot executed a precise final approach, touching down on runway 22 with a good threshold height. The threshold speed was also satisfactory at 113 knots, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The touchdown distance of 404 meters was within acceptable limits, and the touchdown speed of 104 knots was also well within the desired range. Furthermore, the touchdown rate of -171 feet per minute (fpm) was good, demonstrating a controlled and stable landing.
However, there were a couple of minor issues during the landing. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 8.0 meters, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the pilot's alignment during the approach. Additionally, the runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 8.3 meters from the centreline, which may have been caused by a slight drift during the rollout phase.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 16°C and a wind speed of 7 knots from 299°. This resulted in a crosswind of 7 knots and a headwind of 1 knot, which may have contributed to the slight misalignment during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was successful, and the pilot demonstrated good control and precision throughout the approach and touchdown phases.
