Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,123 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 441 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft, an Airbus A321, taxiing from the parking area to the runway at GCTS Tenerife Sur Airport. This process took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 07, and the takeoff distance was 1,513 meters, which accounted for 47% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 166 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions of 22°C temperature and a wind speed of 4 knots at 79 degrees. The crosswind was 1 knot, and the headwind was 3 knots. The enroute climb started overhead El Medano in the Canary Islands, Spain, and the aircraft ascended from 1,219 feet above sea level to 36,228 feet above sea level, an increase of 35,009 feet in 31 minutes, covering a distance of 190 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began 59 miles north of Caleta de Sebo in the Canary Islands, Spain, and lasted for 63 minutes, covering a distance of 473 nautical miles. The enroute descent started 14 miles west of Sagres in the Distrito de Faro, Portugal, and the aircraft descended from 36,173 feet above sea level to 1,633 feet above sea level, a decrease of 34,540 feet in 31 minutes, covering a distance of 106 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 20 at LPPT Humberto Delgado Airport (Lisbon Portela Airport) was made from the north, heading 203.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,264 feet above ground level. The landing took place on runway 20, which had a length of 3,123 meters. The threshold height was slightly above the target, and the threshold speed was also slightly above the target at 149 knots.
The touchdown distance was good at 442 meters, but the touchdown speed was a little fast at 143 knots. The touchdown rate was firm at -384 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 14°C temperature and a wind speed of 7 knots at 210 degrees, with a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 7 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,171 meters, which accounted for 37% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, and the aircraft taxied to the parking area from the runway in 3 minutes, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 777 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 135 minutes. The aircraft used 6,782 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 successfully landed at LPPT Humberto Delgado Airport (Lisbon Portela Airport) with a score of 97.6%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north, heading 203.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,264 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was conducted with a slight deviation in terms of altitude, as the threshold height was slightly above the target at 59 feet agl.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on runway 20 with a distance of 442 meters, which was considered good. However, the touchdown speed of 143 knots was slightly above the target, indicating that the pilots may have been able to reduce the speed further to achieve a smoother touchdown. The touchdown rate was firm at -384 feet per minute (fpm), which is a typical value for a commercial airliner.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 14°C and a wind speed of 7 knots from 210°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, while the headwind component was 7 knots, which helped to reduce the landing distance. The runway length at LPPT Humberto Delgado Airport is 3,123 meters, and the aircraft landed at 37% of the runway length, with a total landing distance of 1,171 meters.
The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilots had successfully aligned the aircraft with the runway centerline. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, demonstrating the pilots' ability to control the aircraft during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with a high score of 97.6%, indicating that the pilots had executed the landing procedure with precision and control.
