Fixing the bounce
Fast at the threshold, normal flare, and the runway seems to refuse the aircraft. The instinctive fix - pushing it on - causes the next one. A fast aircraft forced onto the runway touches nosewheel-first or nearly so. The tell is a touchdown that feels soft followed by a bounce that steepens. Pilots fix the bounce recovery; the cause was the 10 knots at the threshold.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 513 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 513 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 143 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Kodiak 100 departed Paiela Airport (AYPB) from runway 19, applying a take-off roll of 375 m, which represented 73 % of the available runway. Liftoff was achieved at 66 kt. Ambient conditions were 15 °C with a wind of 1 kt from 270°, giving a cross-wind component of 1 kt and no head-wind.
The first climb began overhead AYPB, climbing from 6 503 ft asl to 7 558 ft asl, an increase of 1 056 ft in 1 minutes while covering 2 nm.
A level cruise segment commenced 1 mile south-east of the airport and lasted 2 minutes, during which the aircraft covered 5 nm.
The next climb started 1 mile north of AYPB, ascending from 7 403 ft asl to 9 941 ft asl, a gain of 2 538 ft in 3 minutes and traversing 8 nm.
A descent followed 3 miles south of the field, descending from 9 956 ft asl to 6 342 ft asl, a loss of 3 614 ft in 3 minutes while covering 8 nm.
A subsequent climb overhead the airport lifted the aircraft from 6 358 ft asl to 7 969 ft asl, an increase of 1 611 ft in 2 minutes over a distance of 3 nm.
The second cruise phase began 2 miles south-east of AYPB, lasting 2 minutes and covering 4 nm.
The final descent started 1 mile south-west of the airport, dropping from 7 777 ft asl to 6 467 ft asl, a decrease of 1 310 ft in 2 minutes and spanning 4 nm.
The aircraft landed on runway 19, whose length is 513 m. The threshold speed was slightly below target at 62 kt. Touchdown occurred 142 m down the runway at 50 kt with a touchdown rate of minus 169 fpm and very good alignment. Weather at landing matched the departure conditions: 15 °C, wind 1 kt from 270°, cross-wind 1 kt, head-wind 0 kt.
Rollout performance showed a total landing distance of 293 m, representing 57 % of the runway, and the runway-rollout alignment was very good.
In total the flight covered 35 nm, required 17 minutes of elapsed time, and consumed 53 kg of fuel.
The Kodiak 100 approached runway 19 at Paiela Airport in clear conditions with a temperature of 15 °C and a light wind of 1 kt from 270°, presenting a cross-wind component of 1 kt and no head-wind.
During the threshold and flare phase the aircraft maintained a good threshold height, and the threshold speed was recorded at 62 kt, noted as slightly below the target.
Touchdown occurred 142 m down the runway at a speed of 50 kt, with a descent rate of minus 169 fpm; runway touchdown alignment was very good.
The rollout covered a total landing distance of 293 m, representing 57 % of the 513 m runway, and rollout alignment was very good.
To tighten the approach, aim to achieve the target threshold speed rather than the slightly low 62 kt, ensuring the aircraft reaches the intended speed envelope for optimal energy management.
