MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,661 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 103 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The 2.99 G arrival is the firm side of smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight in question was operated by Air India using a PMDG 777-200LR aircraft, registered as VT-AEF. The aircraft began its journey from Los Angeles International Airport (KLAX), where it taxied from the parking area to the runway, taking approximately 11 minutes and covering a distance of 2 nautical miles.
As the aircraft departed from runway 24L, it experienced a takeoff distance of 2,494 meters, which was 86% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 205 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 26°C, a wind speed of 15 knots at 269°, with a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 15 knots.
The enroute climb began approximately 2 miles south of Marina del Rey, California, where the aircraft climbed from an altitude of 1,008 feet above sea level to 30,653 feet above sea level, an increase of 29,645 feet, in 22 minutes and covering a distance of 130 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered a level cruise phase, which started 33 miles west of Point Bennett Research Station Airstrip Lompoc, California, and lasted for 79 minutes, covering a distance of 595 nautical miles. This was followed by a series of enroute climbs and level cruises, which took the aircraft across various geographical locations, including the western coast of the United States, the Pacific Ocean, and the eastern coast of Asia.
The final enroute climb began approximately 1 mile northwest of Imaricho-ko, Japan, where the aircraft climbed from an altitude of 37,722 feet above sea level to 39,738 feet above sea level, an increase of 2,016 feet, in 3 minutes and covering a distance of 30 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered a level cruise phase, which started 5 miles northeast of Kamigoto Airport, Japan, and lasted for 206 minutes, covering a distance of 1,681 nautical miles. This was followed by a series of enroute descents and final approaches, which took the aircraft to its destination, Indira Gandhi International Airport (VIDP) in New Delhi, India.
The final approach to runway 27 at VIDP was made from the east, with a heading of 272.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,270 feet above ground level. The aircraft landed on the runway, with a touchdown distance of 104 meters, a touchdown speed of 146 knots, and a touchdown rate of -1,843 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.5 meters from the centerline.
The total landing distance was 842 meters, which was 32% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good, and the aircraft taxied to the parking area from the runway in 2 minutes, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 8,104 nautical miles, which was covered in 1,031 minutes, using a total of 132,399 kilograms of fuel.
The PMDG 777-200LR Air India aircraft, registered as VT-AEF, successfully landed at Indira Gandhi International Airport (VIDP) on runway 27. The aircraft approached the runway from the east, heading 272.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,270 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot maintained a good threshold height, adhering to the standard operating procedures for a safe landing.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's speed was 146 knots, which was in line with the threshold speed. The touchdown distance was also satisfactory, measuring 104 meters. However, the touchdown rate was quite heavy, at -1,843 feet per minute (fpm), indicating a relatively abrupt touchdown. This could be a concern for the aircraft's landing gear and overall structural integrity.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 6.5 meters, which may require some adjustments to the pilot's approach and landing technique. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 31°C and a gentle wind of 6 knots from a direction of 90°. The crosswind component was negligible, while the tailwind component was 6 knots, which may have contributed to the heavy touchdown rate.
The total landing distance of 842 meters was within 32% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing roll. The runway rollout alignment was excellent, suggesting that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the landing roll and was able to bring it to a stop safely. Overall, the landing was satisfactory, but the heavy touchdown rate and slight misalignment from the centerline are areas that require attention to ensure a safe and efficient landing.
