Flight Score
Departure
Hold the nose down until the speed reaches 61 kt, then rotate.
What happened: You started the rotation at 51 kt, 10 kt before the 61 kt rotation speed.
Watch for: Airspeed indicator: 61 kt at rotation
See Departure Roll
Arrival
Make small rudder corrections against a fixed point at the far end of the runway to hold the centreline.
What happened: You drifted off the centreline on the approach.
Watch for: Runway centreline: tracked all the way to the threshold.
See Arrival Approach
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: seven checks where the approach path is 300 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply. These checks are the approach's score.
At the 300 ft gate: centreline 2.3° off, against a 1° limit.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,866 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 181 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The aircraft departed from runway 23 at EGPE Inverness Airport, executing a departure roll of 268 m which represented 14 % of the available runway. Rotation was achieved at 51 kt. Ambient conditions were 15 °C with a wind of 2 kt from 269°, comprising a 1 kt cross-wind component and a 2 kt head-wind component.
A left-hand pattern entry was made for runway 23, covering a distance of less than 1 nm in 22 seconds.
The aircraft then proceeded on the left-hand pattern crosswind leg, again covering less than 1 nm, this time in 14 seconds.
During the pattern downwind turn the aircraft flew 1 nm while turning to an angle of 77.4° toward the far end of the runway.
The downwind leg extended 2 nm and was completed in 98 seconds.
The base-leg turn was flown for 2 nm with a turn angle of 38.8° measured to the runway bearing of 45°.
The base leg itself was less than 1 nm in length and was traversed in 44 seconds.
A final-turn segment of less than 1 nm was flown in 28 seconds, positioning the aircraft for final approach.
On final approach to runway 23 the aircraft descended from 583 ft AGL to 27 ft AGL over 71 seconds and met the stabilisation gate criteria.
Touchdown occurred on runway 23, whose total length is 1,866 m. The threshold height was satisfactory and the threshold speed recorded was 60 kt. Touchdown distance measured 181 m and touchdown speed was 49 kt. The vertical speed at touchdown was smooth at minus 124 fpm and runway alignment was very good. Weather conditions remained 15 °C with a wind of 2 kt from 269°, including a 1 kt cross-wind and a 2 kt head-wind.
Runway rollout alignment was perfect and the total landing distance was 315 m, representing 17 % of the runway length.
In total the flight covered 7 nm, required 6 (units as given) and consumed 14 kg of fuel.
