MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Arrival
Begin the flare with progressive back pressure and keep it coming until the sink is arrested, rather than flying it on flat.
What happened: The nose was barely raised in the flare and little of the sink was taken out, flying the aircraft onto the runway. This pattern usually carries through to a firm touchdown with a noticeable sink rate.
Watch for: Vertical speed indicator: a smoothly reducing sink through the normal flare band, not a steady rate into the runway.
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,827 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,827 m of the 3,201 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 823 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Taxiing from the parking area to the runway at LIRF Rome–Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci International Airport took 14 minutes, covering a distance of 3 nautical miles. The Airbus A350-900 then departed from runway 25, utilizing 54% of the 1,548-meter runway to achieve liftoff at a speed of 155 knots. Local weather conditions at the time of departure included a temperature of 21 °C, with a wind speed of 12 knots at a direction of 10°, resulting in a crosswind of 10 knots and a tailwind of 6 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to cruising altitude, it began its enroute climb over LIRF Rome–Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci International Airport, increasing its altitude from 947 feet above sea level to 40,702 feet in 24 minutes, covering a distance of 160 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise phase commenced approximately 1 mile northwest of Bortigiadas, Italy, and lasted for 54 minutes, during which the aircraft covered 739 nautical miles. The enroute descent phase began 6 miles south of Herreruela, Spain, and saw the aircraft descend from 40,992 feet to 1,668 feet in 24 minutes, covering a distance of 126 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 20 at LPPT Humberto Delgado Airport (Lisbon Portela Airport) was initiated from the north, with the aircraft heading 203.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,308 feet above ground level. The landing was completed on the 3,123-meter runway, with the touchdown point located 411 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed of 126 knots was slightly above the target, while the touchdown rate of -263 feet per minute was fair. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.4 meters from the centerline. Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area in 4 minutes, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,035 nautical miles, with a total flight time of 2 hours and 0 minutes, and a fuel consumption of 14,299 kilograms.
The final approach to runway 20 at LPPT Humberto Delgado Airport (Lisbon Portela Airport) was initiated from the north, with the aircraft heading 203.0° at 4 nm and 1,308 ft above ground level. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a threshold height of 57 ft agl, which was slightly above the target. The threshold speed was good at 128 kt, indicating a well-executed approach.
As the aircraft touched down on the runway, the touchdown point was 411 m beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was a little fast at 126 kt. The touchdown rate of -263 fpm was fair, suggesting a controlled descent. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.4 m from the centreline, which may have contributed to a slightly longer landing distance. Local weather conditions, with a temperature of 16 °C and a wind of 5 kt at 310°, were relatively calm, with a crosswind of 4 kt and a tailwind of 1 kt.
The total landing distance of 1,750 m was 56% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 9.1 m from the centreline, which may have affected the overall performance. Despite these minor deviations, the overall landing performance was satisfactory, earning a score of 88.8%.
