Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 9,969 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,569 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Denver International Airport, the Boeing 737-800 began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 15 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. As the aircraft lined up on runway 08, the crew prepared for departure, taking into account the local weather conditions, which included a temperature of 75 °F and winds of 12 kt at 50 °. The aircraft lifted off the ground after a takeoff distance of 5,531 ft, or 46% of the runway, and reached a liftoff speed of 148 kt.
As the aircraft climbed to its enroute cruise altitude, it covered a distance of 143 nautical miles in 20 minutes, increasing its altitude from 6,308 ft to 36,992 ft. The climb phase was followed by a level cruise, which lasted for 113 minutes and covered a distance of 1,004 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent, reducing its altitude from 37,000 ft to 9,043 ft in 12 minutes, covering a distance of 81 nautical miles. The crew made several adjustments to the flight plan, including a brief level cruise phase near Folkston, Georgia, before continuing its descent and eventually landing at Jacksonville International Airport.
The final approach to runway 08 at KJAX was made from the south west, with the aircraft heading 71.0 ° at 4 nautical miles and 1,269 ft above ground level. The landing was completed with a touchdown point 1,207 ft beyond the touchdown zone, at a speed of 136 kt. The total landing distance was 4,718 ft, or 47% of the runway. Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, a process that took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,275 nautical miles, and the aircraft used 15,181 lbs of fuel during the journey, which lasted for 177 minutes.
The Boeing 737-800 touched down on runway 08 at KJAX Jacksonville International Airport, marking a satisfactory conclusion to the approach from the south west. The aircraft's descent was well-managed, with a good threshold height achieved. However, the threshold speed was notably higher than the target, reaching 147 kt. This may have been a result of the aircraft's approach speed being slightly above the optimal value.
As the aircraft made contact with the runway, the touchdown point was located 1,207 ft beyond the touchdown zone, indicating a slightly longer than ideal landing distance. The touchdown speed of 136 kt was also a touch faster than desired, but the touchdown rate of -177 fpm was satisfactory. Unfortunately, the runway touchdown position was not perfectly aligned with the centreline, deviating by 29 ft. This misalignment was also evident during the rollout phase, where the aircraft strayed 28 ft from the centreline.
Despite these minor discrepancies, the overall performance of the landing was commendable. The total landing distance of 4,718 ft accounted for 47% of the runway length, demonstrating a reasonable use of the available space. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 66 °F and a gentle headwind of 1 kt, contributed to a relatively straightforward landing. With a score of 89.9%, this landing can be considered a solid achievement, with room for improvement in terms of approach speed and touchdown alignment.
