Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 305 m and 152 m above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,441 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 633 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The aircraft flown for this flight was a P180 II, specifically registration N9851. As the pilots began preparing for departure, the aircraft started taxiing from its parking spot to the designated runway, which took approximately 10 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile (nm). Upon reaching the runway, the departure roll got underway from runway 08 at Pantelleria Airport, and the aircraft successfully took off.
The takeoff distance was measured at 883 meters, which was approximately 51% of the runway's total length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 121 knots. At the time of departure, the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 29°C and a wind speed of 13 knots blowing from a direction of 150°. Since there were no obstacles in the landing direction, the aircraft had a steady headwind of 4 knots. Consequently, the crosswind was also 13 knots, making it somewhat challenging for the pilots to handle.
Once airborne, the enroute climb phase started shortly after leaving Pantelleria Airport, approximately 1 mile east of the city. The pilots successfully climbed from an initial altitude of 390 meters above sea level (asl) to a maximum altitude of 11,193 meters asl, which is an increase of 10,803.1 meters, covering a distance of 139 nm. This process took around 34 minutes, allowing the aircraft to reach a comfortable altitude while adhering to safety standards.
As the enroute climb phase came to an end, the enroute level cruise phase got underway, lasting approximately 111 minutes and covering a distance of 46 nm. This steady cruising at a designated altitude allowed the pilots to maintain the optimal speed and altitude while enroute to the destination.
As the enroute descent phase started, it took approximately 25 minutes to descend from 11,140 meters asl to 476 meters asl, covering a distance of 84 nm. The pilots efficiently controlled the aircraft's descent while adhering to predetermined flight paths and altitudes.
Upon reaching the destination, the pilots prepared for final approach to runway 05 at Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport from a direction of southwest, at heading 53.0°. The approach path was approximately 4 nautical miles (nm) long at an altitude of 464.8 meters above ground level (agl).
Ultimately, the aircraft landed on runway 05, which is 2,441 meters long. The threshold height of 17.8 meters agl was slightly above target, and the threshold speed was 119 knots. During this phase, the pilots were presented with challenging wind conditions, specifically temperature 32°C, wind speed 17 knots at a direction of 90°, crosswind of 10 knots, and headwind of 14 knots.
Touchdown point was located 212 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 101 knots, and the touchdown rate was an impressive -0.6 meters per second (m/s), which is indicative of smooth landing characteristics. However, there was a slight misalignment with the runway centreline of 3.2 meters.
After touching down on the runway, the total landing distance measured was 1,374 meters, which is approximately 56% of the runway's total length. Upon landing and after the pilots brought the aircraft to a steady state, the final runway rollout alignment was found to be perfect.
Once the landing process came to an end, the aircraft taxied to the designated parking area after approximately 4 minutes of movement and covering a distance of less than 1 nm. Overall, the flight covered a total distance of 276 nm and lasted 80 minutes, utilizing 394 kilograms of fuel.
The aircraft FFX P180 II, registered as N9851 and flying under dynamic registration, successfully completed a landing at LIEO Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport. The final approach to runway 05 from the south-west was executed at a heading of 53.0° and an altitude of 464.8 meters above ground level (agl) at a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway.
During the landing, the aircraft was able to touch down on the runway 05, with a runway length of 2,441 meters. The threshold height at 17.8 meters agl was slightly above the target height, but this did not affect the overall performance of the landing.
The touchdown speed was 101 kt, which was below the target threshold speed of 119 kt. However, this is not necessarily a negative factor as it indicates a smooth touchdown with minimal ground impact. The touchdown point was 212 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which means the crew may need to re-evaluate their alignment to improve landing spot accuracy in future approaches.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were relatively hot, with a temperature of 32°C. The wind was blowing at 17 kt from a direction of 90°, resulting in a crosswind of 10 kt and a headwind of 14 kt. Despite these weather conditions, the aircraft was able to handle the landing smoothly, with a touchdown rate of -0.6 m/s.
After touchdown, the aircraft was able to achieve perfect runway rollout alignment, ensuring a safe and stable taxi to the designated area. The total landing distance was 1,374 meters, which is 56% of the runway length and within acceptable parameters.
