Fixing the bounce
Fast at the threshold, normal flare, and the runway seems to refuse the aircraft. The instinctive fix - pushing it on - causes the next one. A fast aircraft forced onto the runway touches nosewheel-first or nearly so. The tell is a touchdown that feels soft followed by a bounce that steepens. Pilots fix the bounce recovery; the cause was the 10 knots at the threshold.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,921 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 344 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Citation X taxied from the parking area to runway 31 at Tillamook Airport, a movement that lasted 22 minutes and covered 4 nm.
The aircraft commenced its departure roll on runway 31 at KTMK Tillamook Airport, achieving a takeoff distance of 818 m, which represented 54 % of the runway, and lifted off at 137 kt. Local weather temperature was 14 °C.
Climb began overhead Tillamook, Oregon, with the aircraft ascending from 1,033 ft asl to 45,327 ft asl, a gain of 44,293 ft achieved in 20 minutes while covering 151 nm.
Level cruise started 9 miles west of Arlington, Oregon, and continued for 43 minutes, during which the aircraft covered 403 nm.
Descent started 7 miles south east of 23MT Waterfall Airport, Bozeman, Montana, with a reduction from 45,720 ft asl to 12,891 ft asl, a loss of 32,829 ft over 14 minutes and a distance of 102 nm.
A subsequent level cruise began 28 miles north east of KJAC Jackson Hole Airport, Jackson, Wyoming, lasting 2 minutes and covering 7 nm.
The next descent initiated 23 miles north east of KJAC, descending from 12,893 ft asl to 7,729 ft asl, a decrease of 5,164 ft in 7 minutes over 21 nm.
Final approach to runway 19 at KJAC Jackson Hole Airport was flown from the north on a heading of 199.0 ° at 4 nm and 1,307 ft agl.
The aircraft landed on runway 19, whose length is 1,921 m, with a threshold speed of 114 kt; touchdown occurred 101 m beyond the touchdown zone at 110 kt, a firm touchdown rate of minus 342 fpm, and a lateral deviation of 4.7 m from the centreline. Local weather reported a temperature of 13 °C, wind 6 kt from 280 °, including a 6 kt crosswind and 1 kt headwind.
Total landing distance was 1,303 m, representing 68 % of the runway, and runway rollout alignment was described as very good.
The Citation X taxied from the runway to the parking area in 1 minutes, covering less than 1 nm.
Overall, the flight covered 694 nm, required 99 minutes, and consumed 1,458 kg of fuel.
The Citation X entered the final approach to runway 19 at KJAC from the north on a heading of 199.0° at 4 NM and 1,307 ft agl. At the 1,000 ft gate the approach was assessed as stabilised, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope and centreline all within limits, and the prevailing conditions were 13 °C with a wind of 6 kt from 280°, providing a 1 kt head-wind component and a 6 kt cross-wind component.
At threshold the aircraft maintained the published threshold speed of 114 kt and encountered a good threshold height, allowing a proper flare to be initiated in accordance with standard procedures.
Touchdown occurred 101 m beyond the touchdown zone at a speed of 110 kt. The vertical speed at touchdown was firm at minus 342 fpm and the touchdown point was slightly misaligned, being 4.7 m off the centreline.
The rollout covered a total landing distance of 1,303 m, representing 68 % of the 1,921 m runway, and the runway alignment during rollout was very good.
Future landings should target touchdown within the designated zone to minimise excess rollout, and aim to keep centreline deviation below a metre to preserve the very good rollout alignment already demonstrated.
