Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,927 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,927 m of the 3,370 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,018 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 20 at the Silvio Pettirossi International Airport. The Airbus A320 took off with a takeoff distance of 883 meters, which accounted for 26% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 156 knots, and the aircraft was subjected to a local weather condition of 14 degrees Celsius with a wind speed of 3 knots at 189 degrees. The crosswind was negligible, and the aircraft experienced a headwind of 3 knots.
As the aircraft climbed, it started its enroute climb overhead the Silvio Pettirossi International Airport in Asunción, Paraguay. The climb began at an altitude of 1,305 feet above sea level and increased to 1,890 feet above sea level, a rise of 585 feet in just 1 minute, covering a distance of 2 nautical miles.
The enroute descent started 1 mile east of the airport, and the aircraft descended from 1,890 feet above sea level to 715 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,176 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 3 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 20 at the Silvio Pettirossi International Airport was initiated from the north, heading 192.0 degrees at an altitude of 55 feet above ground level and 0 nautical miles from the runway. The landing was executed on runway 20, which had a length of 3,370 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was well above the target at 132 knots.
The touchdown point was 596 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 113 knots, which was a little fast. However, the touchdown rate was perfect at -9 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good. The local weather condition during landing was 11 degrees Celsius with a wind speed of 3 knots at 190 degrees, and the crosswind was negligible, while the aircraft experienced a headwind of 3 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,840 meters, which accounted for 55% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, indicating a smooth and controlled landing. The total flight distance was 7 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 4 minutes, during which the aircraft used 235 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at SGAS Silvio Pettirossi International Airport, achieving a score of 89.8%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north, heading 192.0° at an altitude of 55 feet above ground level (agl) and 0 nautical miles from the runway. The final approach was executed on runway 20, which has a length of 3,370 meters.
The threshold height was reported as good, indicating that the aircraft was at the correct height as it approached the runway threshold. However, the threshold speed was above the target speed, coming in at 132 knots. This may have been due to the aircraft's descent rate or the pilot's decision to maintain a higher speed for the approach.
The touchdown point was 596 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively long distance. The touchdown speed of 113 knots was slightly faster than the target speed, which may have contributed to the longer touchdown distance. On the positive side, the touchdown rate was perfect at -9 feet per minute (fpm), indicating a smooth and controlled descent.
The runway touchdown alignment was very good, suggesting that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway centerline at touchdown. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 11°C and a gentle headwind of 3 knots from 190°. There was no crosswind component, which made the landing even more straightforward.
The total landing distance was 1,840 meters, which is 55% of the runway length. This is a relatively long landing distance, but it is not excessively long considering the aircraft's speed and the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway centerline during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, but there were some areas for improvement, such as maintaining a target touchdown speed and reducing the touchdown distance. However, the aircraft's performance was generally good, and the pilots demonstrated good control and alignment during the approach and landing phases.
