Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 2,092 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,092 m of the 2,925 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 514 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft, an Airbus A319, taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Punta Cana International Airport, taking 12 minutes and covering a distance of 2 nautical miles. Departure roll took place on runway 09, with the aircraft taking off after covering 62% of the runway's length. The takeoff distance was 1,934 meters, and the liftoff speed was 172 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 30 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 19 knots blowing from a direction of 90 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 18 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile east of the airport and rising from an altitude of 965 feet above sea level to 34,004 feet, an increase of 33,039 feet in 21 minutes, covering a distance of 108 nautical miles.
Following the initial climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, starting 1 mile west of Pimentel in the Dominican Republic. This phase of the flight lasted for 210 minutes, during which the aircraft covered a distance of 1,475 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 4 miles north of Whitehall in the United States. The descent took place from an altitude of 33,955 feet to 3,009 feet, a decrease of 30,946 feet in 22 minutes, covering a distance of 119 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting 2 miles northeast of Boucherville in Quebec, Canada. This phase of the flight lasted for only 3 minutes, during which the aircraft covered a distance of 8 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, starting 1 mile east of Saint-Leonard in Quebec. The descent took place from an altitude of 3,011 feet to 1,560 feet, a decrease of 1,451 feet in 3 minutes, covering a distance of 5 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 24L at Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport took place from the northeast, with the aircraft heading 223.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,447 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing took place on the runway, which was 2,925 meters long. The threshold height was above the target, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 137 knots.
The touchdown point was 90 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 126 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was firm at -384 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.5 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of -3 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 19 knots blowing from a direction of 250 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 9 knots and a headwind of 17 knots.
The total landing distance was 2,003 meters, which was 68% of the runway's length. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 11.8 meters from the centerline. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area, taking 9 minutes and covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,725 nautical miles, taking a total of 270 minutes, and the aircraft used 9,727 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A319 aircraft successfully landed at Montreal / Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (CYUL) on runway 24L. The final approach was initiated from the north east, heading 223.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,447 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's performance during the landing was evaluated, and it scored 86.8%.
The threshold height at 69 feet agl was above the target, indicating that the aircraft touched down slightly higher than intended. Additionally, the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 137 knots, suggesting that the aircraft may have been slightly faster than desired during the approach. The touchdown point was 90 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed of 126 knots was a little fast. The touchdown rate was firm at -384 feet per minute (fpm), which is a typical rate for a firm touchdown.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.5 meters from the centerline, indicating that the aircraft may have been slightly off-center during the touchdown. The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were a temperature of -3°C, with a wind speed of 19 knots at 250°. The crosswind component was 9 knots, and the headwind component was 17 knots. These conditions may have contributed to the slight misalignment of the touchdown.
The total landing distance was 2,003 meters, which is 68% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 11.8 meters from the centerline, indicating that the aircraft may have been slightly off-center during the rollout. Overall, the landing was successful, but there were some minor deviations from the target performance.
