Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,435 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 317 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft, an Airbus A320, taxiing from the parking area to the runway at KDEN Denver International Airport. This process took approximately 8 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 25, with the aircraft taking off after covering 18% of the runway's length. The takeoff distance was 669 meters, and the liftoff speed was 148 knots.
As the aircraft climbed into the air, it encountered local weather conditions of 24°C temperature and a wind speed of 2 knots at 0°. The crosswind and headwind were both negligible, at 2 knots and 0 knots respectively. The enroute climb began 3 miles southwest of KDEN Denver International Airport and continued for 13 minutes, during which the aircraft ascended from 6,042 feet above sea level to 38,064 feet above sea level, covering a distance of 131 nautical miles.
Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 2 miles south of KCAG Craig Moffat Airport. This phase lasted for 24 minutes and covered a distance of 588 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent, which started 2 miles southwest of 12S Monument Municipal Airport. The descent took 18 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from 38,166 feet above sea level to 780 feet above sea level, covering a distance of 136 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 28R at KPDX Portland International Airport took place from the southeast, with the aircraft heading 300.0° at an altitude of 746 feet above ground level and a distance of 2 nautical miles from the runway. The landing took place on runway 28R, which had a length of 2,435 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 135 knots.
The touchdown distance was 318 meters, which was within acceptable limits. However, the touchdown speed of 130 knots was slightly faster than desired. The touchdown rate was firm at -336 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 18°C temperature and a wind speed of 2 knots at 339°, with a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 1 knot.
Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, taking approximately 1 minute and covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 862 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 63 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 5,070 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed on runway 28R at KPDX Portland International Airport, achieving a high score of 98.7%. The aircraft approached the runway from the southeast, heading 300.0° at 2 nautical miles and 746 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot maintained a good threshold height, which is a critical aspect of a safe landing.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's threshold speed was within the acceptable range at 135 knots. However, the touchdown speed of 130 knots was slightly faster than ideal, which may have resulted in a firmer touchdown rate. The touchdown rate of -336 feet per minute (fpm) was firm, indicating a relatively steep descent. Despite this, the runway touchdown alignment was very good, suggesting that the pilot maintained control and precision throughout the landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 18°C and a gentle wind of 2 knots at 339°. The crosswind and headwind components were minimal, at 1 knot each, which further contributed to a smooth landing. The total landing distance of 1,385 meters was 57% of the runway length, indicating that the aircraft touched down and came to a stop within a reasonable distance.
During the rollout, the aircraft maintained a very good alignment with the runway, demonstrating the pilot's skill and control. Overall, the landing was successful, and the aircraft came to a stop safely within the designated runway area.
