Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,285 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 178 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A320 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Queenstown International Airport, taking approximately 5 minutes to cover less than 1 nautical mile. The departure roll took place on runway 23, with the aircraft using 1,381 meters, or 78% of the runway, to reach liftoff speed of 155 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 18°C, a wind speed of 5 knots at 329°, resulting in a 5-knot crosswind and a 1-knot headwind.
As the aircraft took off, it began its enroute climb, which started overhead Queenstown International Airport. The climb took the aircraft from an altitude of 2,055 feet above sea level to 36,832 feet, an increase of 34,777 feet, in 19 minutes and covering a distance of 78 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise phase began 21 miles west of Glentanner Airport and lasted for 45 minutes, during which the aircraft covered a distance of 365 nautical miles.
The enroute descent phase started 9 miles east of Urenui and took the aircraft from an altitude of 36,817 feet to 736 feet, a decrease of 36,081 feet, in 29 minutes and covering a distance of 119 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 05R at Auckland International Airport was made from the west, with the aircraft heading 70.0° at an altitude of 704 feet above ground level and 4 nautical miles from the runway.
The landing took place on runway 05R, which had a length of 3,285 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 134 knots. However, the touchdown speed was a little fast at 132 knots, and the touchdown rate was fair at -220 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was significantly misaligned by 27.4 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 15°C, a wind speed of 3 knots at 130°, resulting in a 3-knot crosswind and a 2-knot headwind.
The total landing distance was 741 meters, or 23% of the runway, and the runway rollout alignment was misaligned by 26.7 meters from the centerline. Taxiing to the parking area from the runway took approximately 1 minute to cover less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 570 nautical miles, taking 103 minutes, and the aircraft used 3,293 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 aircraft successfully landed on runway 05R at Auckland International Airport (NZAA) with a score of 84.3%. The final approach was initiated from the west, heading 70.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 704 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on the runway, which has a length of 3,285 meters.
The threshold height was satisfactory, and the threshold speed was maintained at 134 knots, indicating a good approach speed. However, the touchdown speed of 132 knots was slightly faster than ideal, which may have contributed to a fair touchdown rate of -220 feet per minute (fpm). The touchdown distance of 174 meters was within acceptable limits.
Despite the good approach and touchdown parameters, the aircraft's runway touchdown position was significantly misaligned by 27.4 meters from the centerline. This misalignment may have been due to factors such as crosswind or pilot error. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were moderate, with a temperature of 15°C and a light wind of 3 knots at 130°.
The crosswind component was minimal at 3 knots, while the headwind component was 2 knots. These conditions were relatively favorable for landing. The total landing distance of 741 meters was within 23% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing roll.
However, the runway rollout alignment was also misaligned by 26.7 meters from the centerline, which may have been a result of the initial touchdown position being off-center. Overall, the landing was satisfactory, but there is room for improvement in terms of touchdown speed and alignment.
