Work on the flare
See Arrival Landing
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 2,010 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,010 m of the 3,591 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 741 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight in question was operated by a Boeing 777-300 aircraft. The pre-flight taxiing process from the parking area to the runway took approximately 7 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 31L at OMAA Zayed International Airport, with a takeoff distance of 1,269 meters, which accounted for 31% of the runway length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 176 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to its cruising altitude, it encountered local weather conditions of 29°C temperature and a wind speed of 3 knots at 350°. The crosswind and headwind components were both 2 knots. The enroute climb started approximately 1 mile northwest of OMAA Zayed International Airport, Abu Dhabi, and reached an altitude of 33,851 feet above sea level, an increase of 32,746 feet from the initial altitude of 1,105 feet. This climb phase took 16 minutes and covered a distance of 104 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise phase began 42 miles northeast of OMAS Das Island Airport, Das Island, and lasted for 133 minutes, covering a distance of 1,002 nautical miles. The aircraft then encountered another climb phase, this time from 34,564 feet to 36,121 feet, an increase of 1,557 feet, which took 2 minutes and covered 13 nautical miles. The subsequent level cruise phase started 3 miles south of Bingol, Turkey, and lasted for 246 minutes, covering a distance of 1,760 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its descent phase, starting 30 miles northwest of Middelkerke, Belgium. The descent from 35,951 feet to 7,564 feet took 14 minutes and covered a distance of 79 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, this time starting 1 mile east of EGSG Stapleford Aerodrome, Romford, and lasting for 3 minutes, covering 13 nautical miles. The final descent phase began overhead Hadley Wood, Greater London, and took the aircraft from 6,928 feet to 1,375 feet, a decrease of 5,553 feet, in 6 minutes and covering 12 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 27R at EGLL London Heathrow Airport was made from the east, with a heading of 270.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,286 feet above ground level. The landing took place on the runway, with a total landing distance of 1,936 meters, which accounted for 54% of the runway length. The touchdown point was 332 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 142 knots, which was slightly faster than the recommended speed. The touchdown rate was good at -174 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 12°C temperature and a wind speed of 3 knots at 124°, with a crosswind component of 2 knots and a tailwind component of 3 knots. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area, taking approximately 2 minutes and covering less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 2,993 nautical miles, with a total flight time of 429 minutes and a fuel consumption of 52,585 kilograms.
The Boeing 777-300 aircraft successfully landed on runway 27R at EGLL London Heathrow Airport, achieving a score of 93.2%. The final approach was initiated from the east, heading 270.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,286 feet above ground level (agl).
The aircraft's approach and landing performance were satisfactory, with a good threshold height and a threshold speed of 148 knots, which is within the acceptable range. However, the touchdown speed of 142 knots was slightly higher than the ideal speed, indicating that the pilot may have applied a bit more power during the flare. Nevertheless, the touchdown rate of -174 feet per minute (fpm) was good, indicating a controlled descent.
The landing distance of 1,936 meters, which accounts for 54% of the runway length, is within the acceptable range. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilot maintained a stable and aligned approach. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 12°C and a wind speed of 3 knots at 124°, were relatively calm, with a slight tailwind component of 3 knots.
The overall performance of the aircraft during the landing was satisfactory, with a perfect runway rollout alignment. The pilot's ability to maintain a stable and aligned approach, despite the slight tailwind, is commendable. However, the slightly high touchdown speed may indicate a need for further refinement in the pilot's flare technique.
