Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,618 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,618 m of the 2,738 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 374 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Embraer E175 aircraft took off from runway 31 at LaGuardia Airport (KLGA) in New York, United States. The departure roll was smooth, and the takeoff distance covered 829 meters, which was 39% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 142 knots, and the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 6 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 8 knots at 38 degrees.
As the aircraft climbed, it started to ascend from 1,032 feet above sea level to 32,092 feet, an increase of 31,060 feet in just 10 minutes, covering a distance of 86 nautical miles. The enroute climb took place 1 mile south east of Port Morris, New York. Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 10 minutes and covered a distance of 193 nautical miles. This phase started 1 mile west of East Penn Airport Andreas (PA30) in Pennsylvania.
The enroute descent phase began 1 mile north east of Flying M Ranch Airport Grove City (4PN0) in Pennsylvania and lasted for 14 minutes. During this phase, the aircraft descended from 32,175 feet above sea level to 2,051 feet, a decrease of 30,124 feet. The descent covered a distance of 84 nautical miles. Following the descent, the aircraft began its final approach to runway 06L at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (KCLE) from the south west, heading at 50.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,270 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 06L was successful, with a touchdown distance of 376 meters, which was good. The touchdown speed was 130 knots, which was slightly fast, and the touchdown rate was fair at -261 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 6 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 4 knots at 360 degrees. The crosswind was 3 knots, and the headwind was 2 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,536 meters, which was 56% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, and the aircraft taxied to the parking area from the runway in 2 minutes, covering less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 371 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 41 minutes. The aircraft used 1,524 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Embraer E175 aircraft successfully landed at KCLE Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, achieving a score of 99.3%. The final approach to runway 06L was initiated from the southwest, heading 50.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,270 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway with a good threshold height, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. However, the threshold speed was above the target speed, reaching 135 knots, which may have been due to the aircraft's weight or other factors. The touchdown distance of 376 meters was within acceptable limits, demonstrating the pilot's ability to control the aircraft's descent and speed.
Despite the relatively fast touchdown speed of 130 knots, the touchdown rate of -261 feet per minute (fpm) was fair, indicating a moderate rate of descent. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, showing that the pilot had successfully aligned the aircraft with the runway centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 6°C and a wind speed of 4 knots from 360°. The crosswind component was 3 knots, while the headwind component was 2 knots. These conditions did not appear to have significantly impacted the landing, as the aircraft maintained a stable and controlled approach.
The total landing distance of 1,536 meters was 56% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing distance. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, demonstrating the pilot's ability to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase.
Overall, the Embraer E175 aircraft performed well during the landing at KCLE Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, achieving a high score and demonstrating the pilot's skills and expertise.
